More than 150 Personalities and Forty Speakers Were the Stars of the FITUR LGBT+ Stage

With the slogan “Destinations for Diversity,” companies, destinations, events and professionals gathered for the eleventh edition of FITUR LGBT+ to find out about new trends and find new business opportunities. In addition, the Fitur LGBT+ award was given to Iberia, for its social commitment and promoting diversity.

The eleventh edition of Fitur LGBT+ was held in Hall 3 of IFEMA, where companies, destinations, events and professionals gathered to meet, discover new trends and find new business opportunities. With this year’s slogan, Destinations for Diversity, Fitur LGBT+ was officially opened in an event attended by Begoña Villacís, Deputy Mayoress of Madrid, Eduardo Dehesa, Director-General of Tourism with the Madrid Regional Government, and Miguel Sanz, Director-General of Turespaña, among others.

Other visitors to the Gay Fitur area (LGBT+) included Carlos Álamo Cabrera, Councillor for Tourism, Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Government of Spain, Patricia Franco Jiménez, Regional Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of the Castilla-la Mancha region, Ana Isabel Fernández, Director-General of Trade and Commerce for Castilla-la Mancha, and Francisco Javier Fragoso, Mayor of Badajoz, among other personalities. Minister Reyes Maroto stressed the importance of this segment and the support of the Ministry for setting up the Spanish Destinations for Diversity Network.

Themes and Destinations

In this 2021 edition, more than 150 people, including authorities, professionals, speakers and artists, came on stage at Fitur LGBT+. In addition, Fitur LGBT+ had more than forty speakers in the trade visitor days, who covered different topics, including international relations, gay, lesbian, transsexual tourism, tourism for seniors, media, institutional relations, social networks, sport… and discussed travel to destinations in Spain and worldwide, as diverse as Alicante, Valencia, Cullera, Torremolinos, Extremadura, Madrid, Euskadi, Ibiza, La Palma, Tenerife, and more.

Iberia, the sponsor of the LGBT+ area, highlighted the importance of sustainability for airlines and safety to cope with the recent health crisis, sharing their gestures and initiatives for achieving sustainability.

In addition, at this edition, the Fitur LGBT+ award was given to Iberia for its social commitment and promoting diversity. This award is a special recognition of Iberia’s tremendous work and effort during the pandemic, with its special programmes for transporting the medical supplies needed to cope with the situation.
