The Regional Government of Extremadura is defining a new tourism model based on the digital transformation of companies and destinations, the ecological transition of the tourism and hospitality industry, innovation of processes and products based on smart tourism, training of human resources, specialisation and multi-level governance.

The President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, recently informed the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, on the work being carried out by Extremadura to define a new post-covid tourism model, through a Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030 and a Regional Tourism Plan 2021-2025, with participation by the sector and by the social and economic agents of the region.

The new tourism model is based on the digital transformation of companies and destinations, the ecological transition of the tourism and hospitality industry, innovation of processes and products based on smart tourism, training of human resources, specialisation and multi-level governance.

Inland tourism

On the other hand, the President explained that the Regional government of Extremadura has asked the Spanish Government to include inland tourism as a priority within the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, as this type of tourism is a fundamental tool for the region to create employment in rural areas and in the fight against depopulation.
