Madrid, a city with a great range of contemporary art

ARCOmadrid once again makes the Spanish capital the hub of international contemporary art throughout February. Beyond the halls of the Fair site, the leading museums and art centres of Madrid, as well as private and corporate collections, time some of their most important exhibitions to start alongside ARCOmadrid.

Collections
Some of the most interesting collections open in the city during the Fair, such as Fundación ARCO, Grazyna Kulczyk Collection, the Jozami Collection, the Telefónica Collection and Reina Sofía National Art Centre.

ALCOBENDAS ART CENTRE
-“Fundación ARCO Collection: Variation. The obsessive as landscape” The exhibition will gather a selection from the more than three hundred pieces that make up the Fundación ARCO Collection. SALA DE ARTE SANTANDER
-“Grazyna Kulczyk Collection”. This show from the collection includes more than 100 works by contemporary Polish and international artists from the late 1940s to the present. Polish artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Roman Opalka, Zofia Kulik, Alina Szapoczikow, Fangor Wojciech, Libera Zbigniew and Katarzyna Kozyra are shown alongside important international artists such as Eliasson Olafur, Donald Judd, Jenny Holzer, Sam Francis, VALIE EXPORT, Bettina Rheims, Roman Opalka and Antoni Tàpies.

FUNDACIÓN LÁZARO GALDIANO
-“Entre Tiempos…presence of the Jozami Collection in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum”.
Show presenting an intervention from the Jozami Collection with contemporary art pieces (videos and photographs by international artists). Antonio Berni, Christian Boltanski, Joaquín Torres García, Vik Muniz, Luis Seoane, José Gurvich, Xul Solar, Rafael Barradas, Liliana Porter, Ana Mendieta, Regina José Galindo, Graciela Sacco, Leandro Erlich, Daniela Edburg, Óscar Bony, Díaz & Reidweg, Nicole Tram Ba Vang, Barthelemy Toguo, the Campana Brothers, and others.

ESPACIO FUNDACIÓN TELEFÓNICA
-“Contemporary photography in the Telefónica Collection”. Selection of more than 50 works by contemporary photographers from the Telefónica Collection. The Collection covers some of the most representative photography movements of the last four decades, with pieces from 1973 up to 2006. Some artists: Richard Prince, John Baldessari, Sherrie Levine, John Coplans, Cindy Sherman, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Cándida Höffer, and others

Corporate Collections
During ARCOmadrid, special guests and collectors will also have an exclusive opportunity to visit interesting corporate collections, which open their doors to show how to work surrounded by art. Exceptional tours of the Inelcom Collection, Banco de España Collection and the Bergé Collection.

#FocusFinland in Madrid
Alongside the participation of galleries in ARCOmadrid, the Guest Country is making a special effort to present contemporary art from Finland in possibly the most ambitious presentation outside its borders, with more than ten exhibitions and workshops of Finnish artists in Madrid.

-“Cézanne”. The first monographic exhibition on the artist to be organised in Spain in the last thirty years.

LA CASA ENCENDIDA
-“Generación 2014”. The exhibition shows the winning projects of the competition to support young creators held by La Fundación Especial Caja Madrid. Artists: Greta Alfaro, Nora Barón, Tania Blanco, Andrea Canepa, Edu Hurtado, Mariona Moncunill, Anna Moreno Castells, Sara Munguía, Leonor Serrano Rivas, and Belén Zahera.

-“Escenarios del cuerpo. Las metamorfosis de Loïe Fuller”. Show dedicated to the early 20th-century dancer, choreographer and performer, who developed the idea of metamorphosis and perpetual motion, using the latest scientific discoveries of the day in her work.
Curator: Aurora Herrera.

FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE
-“El Taller de Picasso”. The exhibition explores the artist's workshop as a space for experimentation, where Picasso's stylistic metamorphoses took place.

CA2M - CENTRO DE ARTE DOS DE MAYO
- Teresa Margolles (Culiacán, Mexico, 1963). The artist investigates the social and political context of Mexico and how this defines the individual.

-“Los torreznos. Cuatrocientos setenta y tres millones trescientos cincuenta y tres mil ochocientos noventa segundos”. Los Torreznos are a duo consisting of Rafael
Lamata (Valencia, 1959) and Jaime Vallaure (Asturias, 1965). Artists' artists, they are among the leading examples of performance art in Spain.
