The section curators, Alejandro Cesarco, artist, and Manuel Segade, director of CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo of the Community of Madrid, wonder about the possibility of presenting a reading on contemporary art based on a figure who denied the principle of authority.
"The work of artist Félix González-Torres has been growing like a continuous background din in recent decades, like an aspiration, a desire or an accompaniment that makes the notion of progressive and linear history more complex. Like a kind of contamination, his distribution methods, the participation of the spectator in his work, the possibility of introducing emotionality in the conceptual patterns, the capacity for making the most mundane things symbolic, political activism as formal poetics, the seam between the public and the private... today seem fundamental to understand the role of contemporary artistic practices in the 21st century and maintain their complex space. It's Just a Matter of Time comes out of a reflexive hypothesis: by rummaging around in the work of other artists it can enable the articulation of vectors -methodological, political and formal- that broaden their meanings, and with which it becomes possible, in turn, to reread Félix González-Torres," explain the curators.
Along the same lines, the artist Hao Jingban has been proclaimed winner of the Fundación Han Nefkens Video Art Award - ARCOmadrid 2019, for the production of a video art work, which, at this edition, has taken as its reference the symbolic title of the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres "Perfect Lovers ". The new piece will be presented at Matadero Madrid coinciding with the next edition of the Fair.
Along with this new section It's Just a Matter of Time, ARCOmadrid 2020 will maintain the usual programmes of prior editions. Thus, the artistic content of the fair will be rounded out with the its main focus, the General Programme, consisting of galleries selected by the Organising Committee, with the addition of Dialogues, the stands of which will generate new content and offer an in-depth presentation of of artists’ work, and Opening, centred on galleries with no more than seven years behind them.
ARCOmadrid will celebrate its 39th edition from 28 February to 1 March, 2020 in halls 7 and 9 of IFEMA.
