ARCO Foundation dinner in the Museo Thyssen

As a precursor to the celebration of ARCOmadrid’s 35th Anniversary, the Museo Thyssen held the ARCO Foundation dinner with almost 300 guests. An encounter for collectors, experts and art lovers aimed at raising funds for the acquisition of works at the Fair, which then go on to form part of the collection.

The awards ceremony of the “A” Awards for Collecting, granted by IFEMA through the ARCO Foundation, took place at the event. On this exceptional occasion, the ARCO Foundation presented six awards acknowledging the work of collectors, institutions and entities for the artistic value of their collections, as well as their support in the dissemination of contemporary art.

Award to the JORGE M. PÉREZ collection, for its contribution to the establishment of the Pérez Art Museum of Miami

The work of Jorge M. Pérez as a collector has been extensive and systematic since the decade of the eighties. In 2013, the majority of these works were donated to the Pérez Art Museum of Miami (PAMM), which adopted his name in acknowledgement of the contributions made by Mr. Pérez. The work of Jorge Pérez as a collector is defined by a philanthropic spirit and a commitment to promoting art and collaborating with the community.

Award to the PATRIZIA SANDRETTO RE REBAUDENGO Collection, for its work in disseminating international art in Italy and its support of Italian artists

Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo started her collection in 1992, initially in a private capacity until in 1995 it was ceded for use to the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, which has been promoting and handling access to it since then, opening it up to the public.

Award to the ANTÓNIO CACHOLA Collection, for its continuous support of Portuguese artists and galleries and the public exhibition of the collection in Elvas

The origin of the António Cachola Collection dates back to the early nineties and is a reflection of the last 25 years of visual art creation by Portuguese artists. Fundamental works that outline the map of the last few decades of art production in Portugal form part of the collection. It was his personal wish to endow the collection with a public dimension that led to the creation of the Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Elvas (MACE) in 2007.

Award to QATAR MUSEUMS AUTHORITY, for considering contemporary art an asset of its national culture
Since its foundation in 2005, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamid Al-Thani and the directorship of His Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museums has succeeded in channelling the efforts of Qatar to become a vibrant epicentre for the arts, culture and education in the Middle East and beyond.

Award to the COLECCIÓN BANCO DE SABADELL, for integrating contemporary art as part of the Bank’s company culture

The Colección Banco Sabadell, directed by Miquel Molins, has an extensive collection of works of art permanently exhibited in the offices, branches and installations of the bank, used daily by employees and clients. The collection also responds to a philanthropic intention and through its activity aims to foster creation, the art system and the art market.

Award to COLECCIÓN INELCOM, for understanding the most audacious languages of contemporary art and exhibiting them in its headquarters in Ciudad de la Imagen

The Colección INELCOM Arte Contemporáneo was born of the need the company feels to make the use of new technologies applied to their products in the world of art known through its collection, as well as their diffusion. Following its initial focus on telecommunications, energy efficiency caused the collection to evolve towards a new subject matter: energy as a source, vessel and object in all of its possible expressions.

Special mention went to RADIO TELEVISIÓN ESPAÑOLA, for its support of ARCOmadrid throughout its 35 editions and its work toward disseminating art and culture

Radio Televisión Española, RTVE, faithful to its duty to public service and its firm commitment to the world of Culture, has been strongly present at ARCO for 35 years, offering extensive cover on both programmes and the news.
