Atelier JQTS (João Quintela, Tim Simon), along with its partners Daniel Maio and the sculptor Carlos Nogueira, are responsible for the design of Viaticus, located in one of the courtyards of the building. Inspired by the sculptures of Sol LeWitt and the marriage of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, it consists of a structure that unfolds lengthwise and upwards, wrapped and protected by a coloured cloth, as if it were a ship's sail. The study also includes the collaboration of the companies Aresta Renovada; Nomalism and Serralharia Antonio Silva Unipessoal.
This project was the winner of the competition organised by IFEMA/ARCO and the Triennial, to which three other recently established architecture studios in Lisbon were invited: KWY.studio, Warehouse and Camarim Arquitectos. The jury formed by Augusto Ezequiel -Marinha Portuguesa-; Maria Manuel Ferreira -EGEAC/CML-; José Manuel dos Santos -MAAT-; Cristina Guerra –galerista-; Roberto Antón –IFEMA-; Carlos Urroz –ARCO- y José Mateus -Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa-, recognised the great commitment of the participants and highlighted the high quality of all the proposals.
ARCOlisboa 2018 will also feature cafés and bars, which will be open to the public, as well as a private lounge designed for the occasion by Gracinha Viterbo.
