María Del Sol Velásquez (PROMPERÚ): Peru's 30 co-exhibitors at FITUR 2026 held more than 1,000 business meetings
FITUR 2026, "a unique opportunity to promote Peruvian tourism products, identify new opportunities in the Spanish market and continue to boost the flow of Spanish tourists to our country,” according to PROMPERÚ's Director of Tourism Promotion.
"Our 30 co-exhibitors had more than 1,000 business appointments and we also held two important meetings with international airlines".
How was Peru's schedule at the latest edition of the International Tourism Fair, organised by IFEMA MADRID?
Peru's participation in FITUR was outstanding, as we had a varied agenda that included meetings with international tour operators and the promotion of our iconic destinations such as the Moche Route, Ancash and the Amazon. With this wide-ranging tourism offer, the aim was to consolidate Peru as one of the most attractive tourist destinations on an international level, with a comprehensive proposal that combines adventure, culture, gastronomy and nature, all in the context of unique experiences for visitors.
How many co-exhibitors did you have on your stand and how many business appointments did you hold over the course of the trade fair?
Our 30 co-exhibitors held more than 1000 business meetings. In addition, as part of our activities at FITUR, we held two significant meetings with international airlines. The first of these was with Iberia, with which it announced the signing of a strategic alliance aimed at promoting Peru as a destination in Spain, through a joint advertising campaign, based on a diversified offer of flights at promotional prices.
On the other hand, the new Barcelona-Lima air route was launched in collaboration with LEVEL. During the activity, exclusive information was provided about the new direct flight and the impact it will have on connectivity in the region. Both actions seek to increase the flow of tourists to Peru and strengthen the image of our country abroad.
Representatives and members of the International Association for Tourism Cooperation and Development (ASICOTUR) also visited the country, and bilateral meetings were held with representatives of Argentina and the Dominican Republic.
What was the focus of your tourism proposal?
Peru's tourism proposal at FITUR 2026 focused on "living culture" and its 483 square metre stand was designed under the concept "La Yunza: the tree that unites us", inspired by a traditional Peruvian festival. A large tree was placed in the centre of the stand as a symbol of unity, cultural diversity and deep gratitude to the earth, creating an atmosphere of encounter, celebration and community participation.
In this sense, with our participation we not only sought to highlight Peru's natural megadiversity, but also its cultural diversity, integrating tradition and innovation and connecting visitors with our territories and living knowledge. Over the course of the 5 days of the trade fair, attendees were able to enjoy gastronomic presentations of Peruvian dishes and pisco, our flagship spirit, in the showcooking area inspired by Moray, our famous archaeological site located in Cusco. In addition to this, cultural presentations of traditional dances such as the marinera and the painting of a live mural delighted the visitors.
Another surprising area was the immersive zone, where spectacular natural landscapes of Peru such as the Andes Mountains, its coastline and the Amazon were on display, accompanied by aerial images of iconic archaeological sites such as the Nasca Lines. Peru thus presents itself as an authentic, diverse, sustainable and safe destination. Ideal for those seeking not only to enjoy its natural and cultural beauty, but also to experience unforgettable moments, always with the guarantee of responsible and quality tourism. In Peru, innovation and tradition merge to create unique experiences. During FITUR 2026, we showed how we are transforming our tourism proposals with immersive experiences that connect travellers to our rich cultural heritage.
What did FITUR 2026 mean for PROMPERÚ?
For PROMPERÚ, FITUR offers a unique opportunity to promote Peruvian tourism products, identify new opportunities in the Spanish market and continue to boost the flow of Spanish travellers to our country.
