Isaac Álvarez: Alsa will take further steps towards becoming a full-fledged tour operator in 2026
The director of Alsa's Zonal Tourism Unit says that the strategy of this company, which participated in the last edition of FITUR, is to become a global provider of multimodal and sustainable mobility. In this sense, he reveals that "in 2026 we will be taking new steps in this evolution towards becoming an integrated tour operator, which not only markets trips, but also complete tourist experiences, participating in the entire value chain of a tourism service".
What is Alsa’s outlook for the tourism industry in 2026?
As a sustainable, multimodal and connected mobility company, and a key player in the tourism ecosystem, for Alsa 2026 presents a complex panorama in which our business segment will have to face major challenges derived from the sustainability and decarbonisation of the fleet, intermodality, the shortage of drivers, and adaptation to new tourist flows and habits.
What role does your company play in the Spanish tourism industry?
Alsa plays a fundamental role in the Spanish tourism industry, as it is one of the main connectors that brings travellers to their final destinations, especially those without rail or airport connections, through its network of national and regional services as well as its connections from the country's major airports.
In addition, Alsa operates a wide portfolio of tourism products and services such as discretionary services and circuits for tour operators, agencies, cruises and senior tourism; panoramic tourist buses (City Tours); and intermodal Bus+Train or Bus&Fly products with Iberia. It also operates tourist trains, such as the Tren de Felipe II or the Expreso de Canfranc; and tourist boats in the Bay of Santander and the Port of Barcelona.
What new projects or segments are you developing in 2026?
In our strategy to become a global provider of multimodal and sustainable mobility, in 2026 we will be taking further steps in this evolution towards becoming an integrated tour operator, which not only markets travel, but also complete tourist experiences, participating in the entire value chain of a tourism service.
How important are innovation, technology and sustainability in your strategy?
For Alsa, innovation, technology and sustainability are key operational and strategic drivers that mark the evolution of our company. For this reason, we are industry pioneers in the development of technological innovation and digitalisation projects in the application of AI, biometric boarding and MaaS platforms; decarbonisation (green hydrogen, electrification, efficient driving, etc.); and technology applied to operational safety.
