Enrique Espinel, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Civitatis, says they are seeing a clear consolidation of demand for tourism activities and guided tours both in Spain and internationally. This summer, bookings have increased by 12% compared to the same period last year and by 15% in Spain.

According to Espinel, Civitatis will arrive at the next edition of FITUR "with renewed proposals and a great desire to continue leading the industry".

How have tourist activities and guided tours evolved and what is the current demand for them in Spain and in other countries?

We are seeing a clear consolidation of demand for tourism activities and guided tours both in Spain and internationally. This summer, for example, bookings have increased by around 12% compared to the same period last year. In Spain, the growth is even more remarkable, with an increase of almost 15%. This confirms a trend: today's traveller is not satisfied with just knowing where they are going and booking accommodation, but is looking for experiences that truly connect them with the destination. We have a catalogue of more than 95,000 activities — guided tours, excursions, tours, tickets, etc. — and they have become a must for any traveller today.

What kind of tourists tend to choose these proposals?

The profile of the tourist who books activities on Civitatis is very diverse, but we could say that they have a common factor: they want to make the most of their time at the destination. They are travellers who value comfort, organisation and local knowledge. From young couples and families, to senior travellers and groups of friends, we even have those who prefer to travel solo. All of them find our activities a safe and enriching way to discover the world.

What do these activities bring to international tourists and which nationalities are most in demand?

For international tourists, these activities are a direct gateway to the culture, history and everyday life of the city they are visiting. Not only do they optimise their experience, but they enable them to connect more authentically with the place. In the case of Spain, Spanish people continue to be our main users, but we also see a great demand from Argentinians, Italians, Mexicans and Colombians who come to enjoy our country. Internationally, destinations such as Paris, Rome, London or New York are the most popular, and activities such as boat trips, guided tours to emblematic monuments or excursions to nearby cities are in high demand.

How important is a good traveller experience?

At Civitatis, we work constantly every day to offer travellers unique experiences, easy to book and with the best quality. The evolution we are seeing in the industry confirms that the added value of a good destination experience is key to traveller satisfaction. And this is where we will continue to focus all our efforts.

How will your presence at FITUR contribute to further promote the dissemination and knowledge of Civitatis?

FITUR is, without a doubt, a key meeting point for the entire industry. Not only for travel in Spain, but for the entire Spanish-speaking market. It is our home and, therefore, our presence at FITUR is an opportunity to strengthen ties with partners and distributors, share goals, and continue to position ourselves as the benchmark in online distribution of destination activities in Spanish around the world. In the end, strengthening our leadership position in our relationship with our partners and with our distributors is key to continue growing and offering the best possible product to the customer.

What proposals and innovations will you be presenting at FITUR 2026?

FITUR 2026 is still a few months away, so it is too early to anticipate specific details. There are very interesting lines of work open, but some are still confidential. What I can assure you is that, as every year, we will arrive with renewed proposals and with a great desire to continue leading the industry.
