Seychelles is strengthening its commitment to diversification in 2026, according to Monica Gonzalez Llinas, representative for the Seychelles Tourism Board for Spain and Portugal.

Some of the priority segments of this country, which participated in FITUR 2026, are nature and adventure tourism, sustainable tourism and ecotourism, family tourism and active tourism. "Europe continues to be one of our main source markets, with Spain showing a steady growth in recent years.”

Is the tourism industry a driver of income and employment for Seychelles?

Tourism is one of the main pillars of the Seychelles' economy, representing one of the country's main sources of income and employment. This archipelago in the Indian Ocean welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, with tourism being the key driver of sustainable economic development.

How many tourists visited the country last year?

In 2025, Seychelles recorded very positive figures in terms of international arrivals, consolidating its position as a high value destination. Europe remains one of our main source markets, with Spain showing a steady growth in recent years.                        

What are your most important tourism segments?

The Seychelles has traditionally been recognised as a leading destination for honeymooners and luxury tourism. However, in 2026 we are strengthening our focus on segment diversification. Priority segments include nature and adventure tourism; sustainable tourism and ecotourism; family tourism; and active tourism (hiking, diving and sport fishing).

What new projects are you currently developing?

We are working closely with tour operators and travel agents to expand our offer and position Seychelles as a versatile year-round destination beyond the honeymoon segment.

What actions are being carried out to promote sustainability, technology and deseasonalisation?

Sustainability is central to the Seychelles' tourism strategy. The country is internationally recognised for its commitment to environmental protection, with more than 50% of its territory protected. The main actions include the promotion of eco-certified accommodation; the protection of marine and terrestrial biodiversity; the promotion of responsible tourism; and the development of authentic experiences linked to local culture.

In the technological field, we are committed to the digitalisation of tourism promotion, segmented campaigns and the use of innovative tools to improve the visitor experience. We also work on the deseasonalisation of the destination by promoting travel throughout the year and highlighting the advantages of each season.

How important are issues such as air connectivity and training in boosting the Seychelles' tourism industry?

Air connectivity is key to tourism development in the Seychelles. We continue to work with international airlines to improve access from strategic markets such as Spain. In addition, training and collaboration with the distribution channel (travel agencies and tour operators) continues to be a priority, through workshops, seminars and familiarisation trips. Finally, we would like to stress the importance of maintaining a balance between tourism growth and preservation of the natural environment, thus ensuring long-term sustainable development.
