Samuel Suárez wins the National Bakery Championship
Suárez, a candidate from Avilés, also won the prizes for best pastries and best savoury snack in this competition held as part of InterSICOP.
The candidate from Avilés, Samuel Suárez, from the Alimerka bakery, won the fourth edition of the National Bakery Championship held from 19 to 22 February as part of InterSICOP at IFEMA MADRID. In second place was Adrián Muñoz, from the Horno de San Bartolomé in Valencia, while Juan Antonio Cerpa, from the Obrador Cerpa y Porta bakery in Cádiz, came in third place.
The competition, organised by CEOPPAN, had a total of nine participants, divided into groups of three, who carried out their work over three separate days. To convince the jury, they had to make a repertoire of bread (traditional bread, various bread rolls, and savoury snacks), another repertoire of pastries (sweet and savoury) and an artistic piece.
A jury, chaired by José Roldán and accompanied by other national bakery figures such as Jesús Sánchez, Mari Cruz Barón, Francisco Recio and Daniel Flecha, oversaw deliberating and awarding different minor prizes in each category. Diego Marín (Pandemonium, Vigo) won the prize for traditional bread, the best set of bread rolls went to Adrián Muñoz, while Samuel Suárez also won the prizes for best pastries and best savoury snack. Best attitude and companionship went to Antonio García (Blanch Bakery, Castellón). As for the artistic piece category, the jury decided not to award a winner and to leave it deserted.
