The Region of Murcia Association of Artisan Bakers has promoted the "Pan Murciano" initiative (https://www.panmurciano.com/), within the Murcia Gastronomic Capital programme, with the aim of rescuing the recipe for its traditional bread and adapting it to current regulations. The bread is characteristically made with hard wheat flour, without additives and after a long fermentation process.

"We have recovered one of the most traditional recipes in our region, Murcia Bread, going back to the essence of the Huerta, where this traditional product was once kneaded, it is a symbol of Murcia and will be present throughout this year as the Gastronomic Capital", stresses Mayor José Ballesta, adding that "we must take pride in our gastronomic roots and, at the same time, continue innovating, as we have done with this Murcia Bread for the 21st century".

This product is beginning to be distributed in various artisan bakeries in Murcia that have the distinctive Pan de Murcia sign in their establishment, to help the customer identify them.
