BENIHORT, awarded by the Chamber of Commerce as "SME Exporter 2021"
In Deer Export, Macer, Mielso and Peronda Group have also been awarded.
The jury of the Export Awards of the Chamber of Commerce of Castellón, corresponding to the 2021 edition, has decided to award this year to the Agricultural Cooperative San Isidro de Benicarló as "SME Exporter". This recognizes the trajectory of Benihort, which already allocates almost 50% of its fruit and vegetable production for export.
The Benicarló cooperative has been distinguished by the Chamber of Commerce in the category of Exporting SME. The company focuses its activity in the field of vegetables and citrus fruits, seeds and marketing of its own products. Founded in 1946, the different generations that have been part of it have been able to contribute to become a reference in the world of cooperatives in the Valencian Community, with about 1800 members. Anchored in the privileged enclave of the Baix Maestrat region, its annual production exceeds 80,000 tons of citrus fruits and vegetables.
It was in 1958 when it began its development, initiating a period of constant and balanced growth that has elevated it to third place in the ranking of cooperatives in the Valencian Community. The diversification of its services has been key to its growth, incorporating the sale of seeds, fuel, transport, its own supermarket and online store.
As described by the general manager of Benihort, Guillermo Edo, "the 2008 crisis made us rethink our business strategy and focus on internationalization, which has led us to sell 80% of our citrus production abroad, and in vegetables we have managed to export a share of 40%". Through its transport network, Benihort markets its products in countries such as Germany, Italy or France, Eastern European territories and Nordic countries. The company has its own sales network in Central European markets and is part of the Anecoop sales network, which markets throughout the world through its subsidiaries and customers. Currently, almost 50% of its fruit and vegetable production is destined for export.
Its quality and traceability policy is also fundamental to its success. Today, with a large and multidisciplinary work team, it is focusing its growth towards new markets by promoting productive and sustainable agriculture.
The Castellón Chamber of Commerce Awards are sponsored by Banco Sabadell and have also awarded Deer Export SL, from Vall d'Uixó, in the category of Exporting SME, with the award for best Entrepreneurial Company. The companies Macer and Mielso, both from Almassora, have also been distinguished for their International Trajectory. Finally, the Extraordinary Prize has been awarded on this occasion to Peronda Group.
