Cervezas Alhambra launches the call for entries for the 10th edition of its Emerging Art Award
Cervezas Alhambra opens the call for the 10th edition of the Cervezas Alhambra Award for Emerging Art (PCAAE), a cultural patronage project that celebrates its tenth year promoting the talent of artists who find in craftsmanship their starting point to create their contemporary works.
Since its first edition, the Award has become a key event on the national art scene, reaffirming Cervezas Alhambra’s commitment to slow creation, attention to detail and craftsmanship. Ten editions later, the project remains faithful to its essence: to unite craftsmanship and contemporary art from a contemporary perspective, without losing sight of the origins that inspires the brand.
A dialogue between craftsmanship and contemporary art
The call invites emerging artists to submit a project that interprets craft processes, such as ceramics, glass, textiles or wood carving, through a contemporary lens. All proposals must be developed under the “Sin Prisa” (No Haste) philosophy, which claims time as a fundamental ingredient in the act of creation.
A specialised committee will make a preliminary selection of proposals before an international jury can subsequently assess the artist’s career and the submitted project ahead of ARCOmadrid 2026, where the winning work will be announced.
The winning artist will receive support from Cervezas Alhambra in the months that follow to complete the final project, which will be unveiled in the brand’s space at ARCOmadrid 2027.
Ten editions promoting auteur creation
Since its inception, the Cervezas Alhambra Emerging Art Award has served as a platform for discovering new voices in Spanish contemporary art, creating opportunities for collaboration with master artisans and promoting works that highlight the tangible and intangible heritage of traditional crafts.
In its tenth edition, the project celebrates its journey by strengthening its place within Creación de Autor, Cervezas Alhambra’s cultural programme that brings together collaborations with artisans, designers, musicians and artists who share a common outlook focused on attentive creation and respect for processes.
Last March, in the 9th edition of the prize, the Madrid-based artist Monica Mays won with her project "Conveyors", a proposal that combines domestic and industrial fragments to create a large conveyor belt made from rattan and vellum. With the support of Cervezas Alhambra, Mays is developing this work together with the artist Julián Jumar, which will be presented at ARCOmadrid 2026. The project, inspired by the "Sin Prisa" philosophy, reflects on mechanical reproduction and commodification in industrial processes, and was selected by an international jury for its inventiveness and its fresh material vocabulary.
