The artist Luis Gordillo has been awarded the 3rd ENATE-ARCOmadrid Award

The jury decided to grant the award to the work presented by Luis Gordillo (Seville, 1934) and emphasised that "he is one of the indisputable leading figures in Spanish painting of the last half century. The heterogeneity of his work, made up of variations, overlays and shifts in register, as well as the appearance of nuances that are not revealed at first glance, resonates with the layers involved in the process of winemaking. His painting does not seek a single, closed image. It proposes a journey that allows us to discover new relationships between fragments, colours and rhythms. In that sense, approaching Gordillo is like wine tasting. There is a first impression, more direct, and then the small decisions that hold the whole together begin to appear."

With a grant of €10,000, the work will become part of the ENATE collection and will be presented in its space in the Guest Lounge at ARCOmadrid 2026. In addition, this piece will become the label for a special, limited and collectible edition bottle, with 1,000 numbered bottles.

In 1992, the winemaker ENATE started to build a contemporary art collection that included works by both Spanish and international artists. Since then, each of the brand’s wines has been associated with a renowned artist who has created a piece of art to be used exclusively on the winery’s label. This commitment to contemporary art led the prestigious Somontano winery to join ARCOmadrid 2026.

The award will be presented on 5 March at 18:00 at the winery's space in the Guest Lounge at ARCOmadrid 2026.

The International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCO, will be held from 4 to 8 March in halls 7 and 9 of IFEMA MADRID.
