A record-breaking number of entries for the 10th edition of the MOMAD Talents by ISEM contest
More than 50 collections entered a competition that rewards talented young designers with a space at MOMAD and training from ISEM. The winners are chosen for their creativity, originality, sustainability and viability of the product in the market. The winners were MOCLAN and KAUS STUDIO
The winners of MOMAD Talents by ISEM were announced during an event that, after ten editions, broke its record by attracting more than 50 competitors. This competition is organised by MOMAD, Southern Europe's leading fashion, footwear, and accessories fair. Organised by IFEMA MADRID, it will be held from 9 to 11 February 2024 in Hall 8 of the Recinto Ferial and is sponsored by ISEM.
The winners impressed the jury by fulfilling the criteria of creativity, originality, economic, social and environmental sustainability, and viability of the product in the market. The first winner was MOCLAN, whose sustainable profile focuses on recycling and inclusion. Its collection, Timeless, focuses on bags that represent the new 21st-century woman who loves fashion, a cool, trendy, sophisticated woman who cares about the environment and has a social conscience. There is a story behind the slogan they keep in mind at all times: CHANGING THE WORLD, ONE BAG AT TIME. The collection is full of timeless pieces, suitable for year-round use, which they evolve season after season without discarding previous models by using colour as a differentiating element. The firm is a member of the San Sebastian sustainable fashion cluster, GK GREEN FASHION. It has its workshop and another subcontracted in San Sebastian with female victims of gender violence and social exclusion. What’s more, its domestic suppliers are certified in sustainable materials. Their objectives are in line with the 2030 agenda.
The second winner was KAUS STUDIO. This firm always strives to avoid overproduction and maintain the exclusive nature of its garments. It works with small workshops to produce limited editions of each piece. It uses superior quality recycled, ecological, and vegan fabrics (vegan silk), using fabrics in stock that have not been used/sold for a long time. It prints with its unique hand-painted designs, giving it a second opportunity.
‘A Summer in Provence’ is a collection inspired by days and colours that can only be seen and experienced in Provence. The silhouettes are relaxed yet feminine and special. Their top print is geometric with original, vibrant colours, particularly lavender flowers.
This initiative shows MOMAD’s vocation to support young talent in the fashion industry. With industry recognition, the project joins other actions like the ‘Talent LAB 23’ exhibition by the Higher Centre for Fashion Design in Madrid at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in the connecting area between the Madridplata y más by Madridjoya and MOMAD.
MOMAD February 2024 coincided with Intergift, Salón Internacional del Regalo y Decoración (International Gift & Decoration Fair) from 7 to 10 February; Madridplata y más by Madridjoya, and Bisutex, both from 8 to 11 February.
