A total of 373 exhibitors, represented companies and brands will meet from 18 to 20 September 2018 at MEAT ATTRACTION, the Trade Show for the Meat Industry, which will host this important economic segment for the second year in a row, in Hall 4 of Feria de Madrid. This edition highlights the international dimension of the fair, which will see the participation of 373 companies and brands from 16 countries and will occupy an exhibition area of10,000 m2.

In this regard, it should be noted that for the first time, MEAT ATTRACTION has named a guest country, Mexico. A delegation from SENASICA, the National Service of Health, Safety and Agri-Food Quality of Mexico, has been invited by the Secretariat of Agriculture of the Embassy of Spain in Mexico, the Fair and ANICE, and will take advantage of the visit to participate in various business meetings, with the aim of exploring the business opportunities that country offers to the Spanish meat sector. In addition, on the 18th, there will be a Round Table on the "Perspectives of the meat industry in Mexico". Mexico is one of the most important countries in the Americas due to its high population of around 125 million and its large economy, making it one of the world’s largest buyers of pork and pork products.

MEAT ATTRACTION organises a programme called “Buyers Meetings” which are B2B meetings with international buyers from priority markets, which has the support of ICEX Spain Export and Investment, through its network of commercial offices around the world. The programme will generate more than 500 commercial meetings between international buyers interested in doing business and the meat companies exhibiting and registered in the Buyers Meetings. Buyers from countries such as South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Greece, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Colombia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran will participate.

This initiative is of particular interest for the companies exhibiting at the fair, which include the meat and meat products sectors, products with quality seals and certifications (organic, halal and kosher), and meat industry suppliers and distributors.

As well as extensive participation by businesses, with the presence of the leading firms in this sector, there will be support from the main industry associations and bodies represented in the fair’s organising committee. In addition to ANICE, co-organizer of MEAT ATTRACTION, participants will include ANAFRIC, the Association of Exporting Meat Companies, AGEMCEX, and CEDECARNE; meat industry interbranch organisations (ASICI, INTERPORC and PROVACUNO); Mercasa, Mercamadrid, the Association of Meat Industries of Mercamadrid, and distribution associations (ASEDAS, ACES and ANGED).

A powerful industry

In this way, MEAT ATTRACTION shows itself to be the ideal commercial space for the sector, which comprises more than 3,000 companies and generates a turnover of 24 billion euros and 100,000 direct jobs, according to ANICE. It also shows the importance that turnover from the Spanish pork industry has on the sector, which the interbranch organisation Interporc estimates at 15 billion euros, or 1.4% of Spain’s GDP.

In terms of consumption, the average Spanish household consumes 50 kilos of meat and meat products per year and the per capita spend is around 330 euros, according to a MERCASA report for the period 2008 - 2017.

The local supermarket remains consumers' preferred channel for their fresh meat purchases. Supermarkets maintain a market share of 54.4 percent, according to the latest Report on Food in Spain by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), which is echoed by ASEDAS, the Spanish Association of Distributors, Self-Service and Supermarkets.

In order to promote the consumption of meat as a healthy food, MEAT ATTRACTION has been holding TAPA ATTRACTION, the first meat tapas contest, in four markets in Madrid. TAPA ATTRACTION began on 5 September and will run until the 18th. Meat lovers have had the opportunity to enjoy meat tapas paired with excellent wines from Madrid, thanks to the collaboration of Vinos de Madrid, as well as the chance to participate in the preliminary votes. From among the five finalists, a professional jury will choose the winning tapa which will be announced during the trade show.

MEAT ATTRACTION is used by participating companies and bodies to promote their products and services and give them maximum visibility. These include the new website from Neodata, a company specialising in ERP solutions for the meat sector, designed for the management of a meat industry company. Also, AHDB Beef & Lamb will attend the trade show for the first time with their innovative cuts of British lamb and beef with Quality Seal, portioned and packaged in skin packs or vacuum packs for the retail and Horeca sectors, or the
DOP meat quality labels DOP Jabugo, DOP Los Pedroches and IGP Cordero Segureño, which will feature at the Andalusia stand.

In parallel to the trade exhibition, but still within the framework of MEAT ATTRACTION, there will be an intense schedule of professional meetings, which will start on the eve of the trade show, on Monday 17 September. These meetings will kick off with the first edition of #DistriMeat, where Spanish and international experts will address the future of the marketing and distribution of meat and meat products.
