Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid celebrates its 40th anniversary

Madrid will once again take centre stage as the fashion capital, hosting Madrid es Moda and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid — two flagship events that are integral to the Madrid Capital de Moda programme promoted by Madrid City Council.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, organised by IFEMA MADRID with support from Madrid City Council, will celebrate its 40th anniversary from 17 to 21 September as a major reference for Spanish fashion
For five days, Madrid will be packed with creativity and talent with a programme that will unfold in various venues around the city, as well as in Hall 14.1 of IFEMA MADRID, the epicentre of the event. This edition will feature the participation of around 40 designers, including established names and emerging new talents, as well as the return of major figures. All of this is based on the key pillars that define this fashion week: talent, industry, internationalisation, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
The 40th anniversary of MBFWMadrid will mark the beginning of a new chapter, with a revamped programme spanning several main sections: the OFF Shows, which will kick off on 17 September featuring international guest designer Silvia Tcherassi, along with Palomo, Pedro del Hierro, Adolfo Domínguez, and Simorra; and the Showcases held at various locations across Madrid, featuring brands like Juan Vidal and Erroz.
On the afternoon of 17 September, designers Félix Ramiro, Pilar Dalbat, and Rafael Urquízar will also present their collections at different venues throughout Madrid, culminating in the day’s events with the proposals from Juan Vidal and Erroz, who will showcase their latest designs in Showcase format. In the run-up to the activity in the city, on Monday, 15 September, the UDIT show, by the University of Design, Innovation and Technology, will be held.
After that, the general programme of catwalk shows will continue in Hall 14.1 at IFEMA MADRID:
- Thursday, 18 September Kick off with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, followed by brands such as Claro Couture, The Label Edition, París64, Yolancris and the début of Flabelus.
- Friday, 19 September A spotlight on De la Cierva y Nicolás, Isabel Sanchis, Hannibal Laguna, Custo Barcelona, Baro Lucas and Lola Casademunt by Maite.

According to Engracia Hidalgo, delegate for the Economy, Innovation, and Finance for Madrid City Council, Madrid Fashion Week "Madrid is firmly established as the fashion capital of Spain and is the third-largest city exporting to international markets." “The Community of Madrid has almost 52,100 workers in the fashion industry and employs more than 4,500 people in the textile industry alone (4,552 in 2024), in addition to leading the regional turnover ranking, accounting for 17.54 % of the national total”.
Meanwhile, Modesto Lomba, president of the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), said that “Madrid es Moda is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This initiative, launched by the Association of Spanish Fashion Creators in 2015, was a pioneer in bringing Spanish designer fashion to the streets, transforming Madrid’s city centre and its cultural heritage into a spectacular catwalk. This edition is dedicated to designers, craftsmen, tradespeople, the city of Madrid for embracing and enhancing talent, and fans of Spanish fashion.
On the same subject, Daniel Martínez, vice-president of IFEMA MADRID, stated that "Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid is celebrating 40 years of history, and is established as the leading reference for Spanish fashion, looking clearly towards the future. This edition marks the start of a new, more international, more innovative, and more industry-focused phase, which will continue to position Madrid on the global fashion map”.
