About Maikarfi

Manuel Conejero Espasa (Lolo) is a designer from Villena (Alicante) and the founder of the brand Maikarfi.

The brand’s work is built through the observation of the body and how materials transform when placed in tension with it. It explores fragility, volume, and distortion as its own languages, seeking for each piece to exist in dialogue between the ephemeral and the structural.

In every proposal, one of the brand’s core focal points in the development of its collections is textile experimentation. The brand understands fashion as a form of vulnerability toward the concerns that unsettle the designer, approaching each collection’s themes from a deeply personal perspective.

“Cruz de Mayo”

“I have spent every summer of my life making plans for September, but not anymore. Now I spend the summer thinking about the plans I used to make, which have faded away, partly due to laziness and partly due to forgetfulness.”

Returning to my hometown has always been a form of mourning; reconnecting with situations I no longer relate to has left me with a sense of emptiness. The only way I have been able to make peace with this place has been by working through memories, engaging with the fabrics and materials that have surrounded me since childhood: crochet, leather, tracksuit fabrics, and even recreating textiles from bicycle inner tubes.

The collection is divided into three interconnected lines, mainly defined by garment types and textiles. The first line is developed using wool and wool-like materials, combining different fabrics and exploring volume from a more conceptual approach. The last look of the first line links to the second line through the use of leather, transitioning into a more ready-to-wear proposal that evolves from leather to denim and then to knitwear, with historicist references, a more relaxed and feminine silhouette, while maintaining certain volumes. The third line returns to a more conceptual language through textiles made from bicycle inner tubes, emphasizing voluminous sleeves and collars. The entire collection maintains continuity and a progressive implementation of the textiles.
