

Interview with Esteban Gutiérrez Lizancos - Covirán's Fresh Produce Manager
We interviewed Esteban Gutiérrez Lizancos, Covirán's Fresh Produce Manager.
In this interview, Esteban Gutiérrez Lizancos talks to us about the current situation of fresh produce; "There is a complex situation that is especially generated by the rise in diesel fuel...".
He also explains the importance of the Spanish market in the distribution of fresh products; "In Covirán more than 90% of our fruit and vegetables are purchased at origin from small farmers, producers and cooperatives spread throughout the national territory, always looking for the balance between quality and a correct price for all the steps involved".
In addition, we spoke with him about the most important challenges currently facing the sector; "For me the main challenge is that we must continue to maintain our leadership as an exporting and importing country" and about what innovative measures Covirán applies to boost the distribution of fresh produce; "We have focused a lot on overcoming any logistical difficulties in the supply chain that we have encountered as a result of the pandemic and other crises that have arisen".
He also stressed the importance of organic fruit for a company like his; "We continue to work, working with our farmers in those crops that are focused on zero waste and biological control systems that I think is gaining more and more strength in the fields of our country" and what changes have experienced logistics networks lately.
Finally, he explained the role played by the agri-food fairs in a sector such as distribution; "Fruit Attraction for me is an unmissable event where since its inception Covirán has not missed any of the editions held and we intend to continue participating in future editions".
