Sorma Ibérica presents P&P-800: Automating for Greater Profitability
With a working speed of up to 240 pieces of fruit per minute, the P&P-800 significantly reduces reliance on manual packing. Under normal production conditions, the system can free up between 7 and 8 workers per shift, while maintaining process consistency and improving the overall efficiency of the line.
In a context marked by rising labour costs, difficulties in securing sufficient staff during harvesting campaigns and the need to maintain high levels of productivity, automation has become a strategic decision for fresh produce packing facilities.
Sorma Ibérica addresses this challenge with the P&P-800, an automatic Pick & Place packing machine designed to automate one of the most labour-intensive operations: placing fruit into trays and boxes. The machine can handle fruit that is already positioned in trays or place it directly into the final packaging, ensuring precision, gentle handling and a consistent presentation.

The economic impact becomes particularly relevant when analysed over an entire campaign
Based on real data collected in Spanish production areas, and using prudent employer labour costs in comparison with public indicators such as those published by the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute), the P&P-800 can generate significant savings both during short stone-fruit campaigns and longer campaigns, such as citrus. In facilities operating several shifts, the savings potential is multiplied, potentially allowing the machine to pay for itself within a single campaign.
In addition to labour savings, the P&P-800 provides a key added value: the visual quality of the final pack. Thanks to its intelligent camera system and Sormatech-AI software, the machine identifies the type of fruit, tray format and box configuration, orienting each piece to display its best side. The result is uniform, attractive and stable packing, in line with the current requirements of retailers and consumers.
The P&P-800 is part of Sorma Group's ecosystem of solutions for the automation of fresh produce packaging. Combined with technologies such as the Sorma Clipless® metal-clip-free netting system, it enables packing facilities to improve operational efficiency and sustainability simultaneously, responding to new market demands and the future European regulatory framework for packaging.
Sorma Ibérica will be exhibiting at Fruit Attraction on stand 3D24.
