The 15th edition of Spain’s Leading International Trade Fair for the Automotive Industry, targeting trade visitors from the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and North Africa, MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID, will be holding a conference on remanufacturing and circular economy, with the participation of industry experts. The conference will take place within the Trade Fair, organised by IFEMA to be held at Feria de Madrid from the 13 to 16 March 2019.

In December MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID made public its support by promoting the activity of those exhibitors who are committed to remanufacturing and circular economy in the automotive industry. Thus, as a first step, the Trade Fair conducted a survey among the exhibitors in that area and experts on the matter, to find out what interests them, issues such as measures that should be implemented to promote the Circular Economy, without affecting product quality and safety; tax laws, current regulations and suggestions for its evolution; the problems of current legislation or how to work with distribution channels to gain their confidence in these products.

As a result of this survey it was clear that the highest concerns are the lack of information and awareness for users; lack of backing by the Government, and an offer for economic assistance and tax benefits, such as reduced VAT for recycled parts and, lastly, unfair competition by “low cost” parts made by suppliers from emerging countries, that do not meet the same quality and safety standards.

On the other hand, changes in the business model in the automotive industry towards service provision (pay-per-use, car sharing) compared to the current product sale model; or the lack of an ongoing and quality flow of recycled parts are not problems that excessively concern the surveyed experts.

Given the survey results, MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID has gathered a group of experts to organise a working conference to be held during the Trade Fair on “Remanufacturing and Circular Economy in the automotive industry”, where these issues can be discussed, the opinion of the public authorities can be heard and they can be informed of the industry concerns.

The purpose of the conference will be to raise awareness on the work carried out by the sector, with a view to the 2021 edition, where MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID intends to add an exclusive area dedicated to this corporate segment.
