GREENFOG-AS, the Citrocide® Systems and CATsystem® will share the limelight with the company’s expansion into products focused on stone fruit and tropical fruit

Citrosol returns to Fruit Attraction with three of its flagship solutions taking centre stage: GREENFOG-AS, the Citrocide® Systems and CATsystem®. The company, which holds a leading position in the citrus sector, will use its participation in the trade fair to also showcase the development of its activities in other fruit and vegetable markets with growth potential, including stone fruit and tropical fruit.

To this end, it will have a 72-square-metre stand in Hall 3, D26, where a team of 26 professionals – including staff from its branches in South Africa and Peru – will be on hand throughout the three days of the fair.

Flagship solutions

Among the post-harvest solutions that Citrosol will be presenting at this year’s Fruit Attraction is GREENFOG-AS, a ‘zero-waste’ fumigant solution designed for the treatment of citrus fruits after harvesting. Its application eliminates fungal spores and reduces complaints associated with fruit storage issues. The system is based on a green chemistry formulation and requires no water nor generates any waste during application, offering maximum efficacy and sustainability.

Citrocide® Fresh Cut systems, meanwhile, are designed for the hygienic and safe washing of fruit and vegetables, particularly minimally processed or fresh-cut products. Their features include the prevention of cross-contamination, process traceability and the hygienic recycling of wash water, which helps to reduce water consumption and prevent the generation of harmful by-products.

And we mustn’t forget CATsystem®, the system that enables the concentration of active ingredients in treatment baths to be measured and corrected in real time. The system analyses the treatment solution and adjusts the concentrations to keep them within the set range, ensuring a consistent, precise and efficient application. CATsystem® thus represents a technological leap forward in the control of rot in citrus fruits and is an essential tool for the management of the most sustainable processing plants.

International reach

Alongside these solutions, Citrosol will showcase at Fruit Attraction the evolution of its activities across various fruit and vegetable markets. Although citrus remains one of its main areas of focus, the company has spent years developing solutions for other crops, including tropical fruits and stone fruits – two segments with growth potential as fruit and vegetable production increases in various countries.

Crop and market diversification forms part of the evolution of Citrosol’s post-harvest technologies, which also cover produce such as avocados, mangoes, apples and pears. The company also has an international presence and operations in markets such as South Africa, Peru and Uruguay, from where it meets the needs of producers and operators in different geographical areas.

During the three days of Fruit Attraction, the Citrosol team will be at stand D26 in Hall 3 to meet industry professionals and showcase the potential of its post-harvest solutions in the various markets in which it operates.

About Citrosol

Although founded in 1984 as Productos Citrosol, S.A., the company’s post-harvest treatment and technology activities began in the 1960s within Electroquímica del Serpis, S.A., both based in Potries, Valencia. As a result of significant organic growth over the last 15 years, Citrosol currently employs 136 staff, 12 of whom are based in various countries and at its subsidiaries in South Africa, Peru and Uruguay, with its own staff in Egypt. At its Potries site, the company operates an R&D&I laboratory and a pilot plant covering just over 1,200 m². Its organic growth has been largely due to its strong innovative spirit, having received the CEPYME Innovation Award in 2015 and 2020 and the 2020 Business Innovation Award from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.

Citrosol began as a specialist in post-harvest treatments and technology for citrus fruits, but for over 15 years now, as a result of its R&D&I work, it has been developing solutions to extend the shelf life of avocados, peppers, tomatoes, peeled garlic and other fruit and vegetables. Citrosol is currently rolling out its solution for fresh-cut produce, the Citrocide® Fresh-Cut System, which significantly reduces the water and carbon footprints associated with the production of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables. Through all its treatments and technologies, Citrosol makes a major contribution to reducing food loss and waste in fruit and vegetables.
