The Association for the Promotion of Fruit and Vegetable Consumption ‘5 a day’ is a non-profit, nationwide association that promotes the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, It promotes the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as the practice of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle
The ‘5 a day’ Association is managed by its board of directors made up of companies from the fruit and vegetable sector in the areas of production and trade at source, distribution and trade at destination and society and services. Its members are democratically elected in a general assembly, made up of more than 1,000 associates. It will be exhibiting at Fruit Attraction at stand 5E04.
It is financed mainly by annual contributions from its members, as well as collaboration agreements with companies and public administrations. The Association is managed by a professional team and has a Scientific Committee as an advisory body on food and health.
Its main objectives are:
- To increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables in the Spanish population.
- To promote healthy eating habits.
- To inform about the benefits of daily consumption of fruit and vegetables, especially to children and young people as consumers of the future.
- To educate on healthy lifestyles and the improvement of eating environments, in order to reduce the risk of obesity, especially that affecting children and young people.
The Association's health message is "to consume at least 5 portions of fresh, varied, seasonal and preferably local fruit and vegetables every day, all within the framework of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle".
