In Spain, the sector is showing a trend towards recovery in the area under cultivation, which reached 66,660 hectares in 2025, driven mainly by the growth in early or green potatoes. Domestic production remains stable at around 1.95 million tonnes, consolidating the economic and agricultural importance of this crop.
At European level, the European Union produces more than 55 million tonnes of potatoes a year, with Germany, France and the Netherlands being the main producers. Spain ranks seventh within the EU market and continues to strengthen its role as a supplier of high-quality new potatoes to European markets.
