Tourism is a major driver for developing both the global and local economy. With annual growth currently at 6%, it is estimated that by 2030 tourism will account for 12% of world GDP and there will be 1.8 billion travellers in the world.
However, tourism can also have adverse effects such as environmental impact, overexploitation of resources and destinations, overloading of infrastructure, and gentrification. In this context, Fitur has undertaken a global project to publicise tourism models and initiatives with positive personal, social, cultural and environmental effects on people, places and the environment.
FITUR Next takes the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as its reference framework for innovation when developing tourism good practices and products.
