The total number of professionals linked to sustainability convened by FSMS and GENERA exceeded 32,000.

The MADRID CITIES FORUM brought together more than 1,000 attendees and 260 speakers

The fourth ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY FORUM, FSMS 2022, organised by IFEMA MADRID, from 14 to 16 June, and comprising the International Urban Planning and Environment Trade Fair, TECMA; the International Recovery and Recycling Trade Fair, SRR, and the MADRID CITIES FORUM, was visited by 10,910 professionals (almost 3% more than those registered at the last on-site edition in 2018). It was an event that brought together the Urban Planning, Environment and Recycling industry, represented by 227 companies and 117 brands from 7 countries, and which on this occasion had a strong Latin American focus. The celebration of FSMS coincided with the 25th International Energy and Environment Fair, GENERA (promoted by the IDAE, Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge), and with the congress on sustainable mobility GLOBAL MOBILITY CALL, which together made up the largest meeting on sustainability held to date.

Together, the FSMS and GENERA events achieved excellent results with more than 32,017 participants, including those from the virtual community. In both cases, there was strong sectoral support and, above all, a high level of foreign participation, confirming once again the growing international scope of the event. Specifically, in the shows that made up the ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY FORUM, the number of foreign visitors (9.4% of the total, from 48 countries) increased by 51% compared to the previous event in 2018, including, in order of importance, those from Portugal, with 16% of the total; Mexico, 14.7%; Poland, 10%; Italy, 9%; France, 5.6%; Belgium and the Netherlands, 3.8% each; the United Kingdom, 3.3%, and Germany, 23%.

Meanwhile, more than half of the participating Spanish professionals came from outside Madrid. Another significant fact is that 21% of TECMA visitors came specifically to participate in the MADRID CITIES FORUM. The high level of visitors is confirmed by the fact that 40% of those who attended TECMA and 56% of those who attended SRR belonged to their companies' management teams. 64% of the companies to which TECMA visitors belonged operate abroad, including 27% in EU countries (in the case of SRR, the percentages are 51% and 28.5% respectively).

FSMS 2022 was opened on 14 June, in Pavilion 8, which hosted the MADRID CITIES FORUM. The event, led by WSFS Director Lola González, was attended by Carlos Casares, Secretary General of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, FEMP; Carmen Sánchez-Miranda, Head of the UN-Habitat Office in Spain; Carolina Mejía de Garrigó, Mayor of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Vice-President of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities, UCCI, for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, and Almudena Maíllo, Secretary General of the Union of Latin American Capital Cities, UCCI, and Head of the Tourism Office, Madrid City Council.

In addition, the Third Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Authorities Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, visited the International Trade Fair for Recovery and Recycling, SRR 2022, on the last day,16 June.

Following the success of the congress, IFEMA MADRID is already working on the next -fifth- ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY FORUM, FSMS 2022 event, which will include the 22nd International Urban Planning and Environment Fair, TECMA; the International Recovery and Recycling Fair, SRR, and the sixth MADRID CITIES FORUM, which will take place at the Exhibition Centre, from 18 to 20 June 2024.
