Sustainable solutions for waste transformation at the recovery and recycling trade fair, SRR 2018

The 6th International Recovery and Recycling Trade Fair (SRR), to be held from 13 to 15 June 2018, at the Feria de Madrid, will once again be the centre of this sector immersed in a process of transformation to adapt to the new demands of the circular economy

14 Dec 2017

After five editions, SRR is firmly consolidated as the leading event for the recovery and recycling industry, a meeting place for the companies and professionals in this sector to exhibit their new products and share knowledge and ideas in the different events planned. With the tagline "Transforming Resources", SRR again focuses its attention on the sustainable solutions that drive the circular economy and on reuse of waste products as new resources, thereby providing answers to the depletion of raw materials in a finite world.

The trade fair, organised by IFEMA and promoted by the Spanish Federation of Recovery and Recycling (FER), along with the Spanish Association of Scrapyards and Recycling Facilities (AEDRA) and the Spanish Association for Environmental Treatment of Out of Use Vehicles (SIGRAUTO), the Spanish Association of Paper and Cardboard Recovery (REPACAR), the National Association of Environmental Auditors and Verifiers (ANAVAM), the Spanish Federation of Control Bodies (FEDAOC), the National Association of Plastic Recyclers (ANARPLA), and the National Group for Glass Recycling (ANAREVI), as well as organisations and public administrations like AENOR, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council.

In its extensive exhibition area, visitors will be able to learn about the major new developments in sectors such as machinery for decontamination, recovery, fragmentation, recycling and valorisation of all types of materials; logistics companies; certifying and verifying bodies; engineering firms; integrated management systems, etc. This event represents a unique opportunity to strengthen business relationships, present new products, identify new partners, reinforce brand presence, and hold demonstrations for customers.

SRR will also host the 15th National Recovery and Recycling Congress, organised by the Spanish Federation of Recovery and Recycling (FER), and the 7th National Meeting on Management and Recycling of Out of Use Vehicles, organised by the Spanish Association for Environmental Treatment of Out of Use Vehicles (SIGRAUTO). These two important industry events are accompanied by different seminars and conferences to be held in parallel.

SRR addresses aspects such as environmental management of waste, its recovery and valorisation, the activity of waste treatment and recycling centres, legislative aspects, R&D i applied to industry in the sector, training for its professionals, etc. Accordingly, SRR is a meeting place both for the recovery and recycling industry and for public administrations and experts.

The big news about this next edition of SRR will be the GALLERY OF SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION, an initiative of the competition for promoting innovation and giving more visibility to products and services of special interest, such as tangible and practical solutions for sustainable environmental development.

The number and importance of the organisations involved in SRR demonstrates the complexity of the recovery and recycling sector, as well as the number of aspects and types of wastes it touches, ranging from ferrous materials to paper/cardboard, and including plastics, glass, wood, textiles, organic waste, etc. It should be noted that recycling rates in Spain have increased significantly in recent years, although there are still many materials for which work remains to be done. The ultimate objective, as announced in the European Commission's Circular Economy Package and upcoming Directives currently under preparation, will be to reduce to a minimum the wastes that end up in landfills.

In addition, the Spanish government recently launched the National Pact for the Circular Economy, with more than 70 signing organisations, at the same time as it is drafting the new Circular Economy Strategy, which will be released in coming months.

SRR is part of the SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS FORUM (FSMS), which also brings together, on the same date, the 19th edition of the International Town Planning and Environment Trade Fair (TECMA), the 3rd edition of the Madrid Cities Forum, and the 3rd edition of the Hygiene and Cleaning Trade Show (ESCLEAN), in addition to dozen other events and conferences. With over 10,000 professional visitors, 740 participating companies, and 252 direct exhibitor companies in its previous edition in 2016, FSMS is the perfect scenario for companies to do business and show their newest products and services.
