A total of six EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) schemes will showcase at IFEMA MADRID how the circular economy is redefining who produces, who pays and how products are designed

The International Recovery and Recycling Fair, SRR 2026, organised by IFEMA MADRID from 9 to 11 June, will this year feature a dedicated area for Collective Extended Producer Responsibility Schemes (SCRAPs), which are key players in the development and consolidation of the new European circular economy model.

Located in Hall 7 at IFEMA MADRID, the SCRAPs Area will bring together six systems representing different waste streams (ENVALORA, TNU, CARTÓN CIRCULAR, IMPLICA, ECOEMBES and GENCI) to demonstrate how the waste system is organised, financed and managed, going beyond recycling.

SCRAPs have emerged as a direct result of the gradual implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), an environmental policy principle of the European Union stipulating that whoever places a product on the market must also assume responsibility for its management once it becomes waste. This approach aims to address a structural inefficiency in the traditional economic model, where the environmental and economic costs of waste were borne mainly by public authorities and, by extension, by society.

Six SCRAPs, six operational models

The systems participating in SRR 2026 reflect the diversity of waste streams, models and areas of operation within EPR in Spain:

  • ENVALORA, the leading SCRAP organisation for commercial and industrial packaging, will present its operational models focused on prevention, reuse and recycling, as well as its incentive schemes, eco-design plans and advisory services for companies operating internationally.
  • TNU, the system responsible for managing end-of-life tyres, will showcase its national model for collection, sorting, traceability and recovery, based on coordination between manufacturers, waste management operators, distributors and garages.
  • CARTÓN CIRCULAR, a specialist in multi-material industrial packaging, will detail its solutions for ensuring traceability, regulatory compliance and the implementation of reuse schemes, as well as its Circular Industrial Plan 2025-2029.

  • IMPLICA, a pioneer in recycling, will have its own stand where it will provide information on the obligations arising from Royal Decree 1055/2022 and the new European Packaging Regulation, as well as presenting its continuing professional development services and professional communities.

  • ECOEMBES, a leading organisation in the management of domestic and commercial packaging, will outline how management systems have evolved within the new regulatory framework.

  • GENCI, a multi-material system linked to the SIGAUS initiative, will describe its model, which is based on traceability, adherence to existing procedures and a gradual nationwide roll-out.

Technical seminar on the role of SCRAPs

On Wednesday, 10 June, from 16:00 to 19:00, the SCRAPs Area hosts the conference: “Waste management and recovery in Spain: challenges, opportunities and the role of SCRAPs”, a forum for analysis and debate bringing together institutional representatives, industry associations and leading companies.

The conference addresses the evolution of producer responsibility in Europe, the effectiveness of collective schemes, eco-modulation design, opportunities for resource recovery, and the role of green public procurement as a catalyst for market transformation. It concludes with a networking session designed to foster collaboration.

Through this initiative, SRR 2026 reinforces its position as a leading forum for understanding how regulation, market forces and business decision-making shape the circular economy, positioning SCRAPs as strategic players in the new production model.
