Argentina, Honorary Guest Country at LIBER 2017

Argentina will be one of the main protagonists at this edition of LIBER. The country's presence aims to publicise Argentinian publishing in Spain and promote its authors and publishers. This homage to Argentina is part of the joint efforts of the Fair and the Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds –(FGEE) to promote internationalisation of the book industry and tighten cultural and trade relationships with markets with particular potential for Spain.

As well as the country's large exhibition space at the fair, with hundreds of books and sales catalogues, there will be Argentinian authors and publishers like Ariana Harwicz, Andrés Neuman, Pablo de Santis, Damián Tabarovsky, Diego Sasturain, Marcelo Carnero, Cecilia Szperling, Patricio Pron, Hugo Mujica, Andrés Di Tella and Martha Alles. Guests from the Spanish publishing industry include professor Eduardo Becerra, writer Clara Obligado and cultural critic Constantino Bertolo.

What's more, there will be a cultural programme taking place at various locations in the city including the National Library, Círculo de Bellas Artes and different bookshops where there will be activities related to Argentinian literature, discussion among authors, round tables on the outlook for the industry in both countries, and audiovisual exhibitions.

Argentina's presence at LIBER is spearheaded by the Argentinian Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship and the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency. The aim is to encourage growth in publishing companies, increase sales and trade links, boost Argentina's presence at European trade fairs and strengthen co-operation between the two countries.

The programme was put together by the Ministry of Culture through the Secretariat for Federal Integration and International Cooperation. Based on work meetings with Cámara del Libro [Argentinian Book Chamber], Fundación El Libro [The Book Foundation] and Cámara Argentina de Publicaciones [Argentinian Chamber of Publications], different literary activities and events were set up between industry professionals and Spanish publishing companies (such as El Hilo de Ariadna, GRANICA, Mardulce, Planeta, and Random House). Other industry get-togethers have been scheduled for the fair through CONABIP [Comisión Nacional de Bibliotecas Populares - National Commission for Public Libraries] and the Buenos Aires International Book Fair.

Ø  MARDULCE WEEK in Madrid.

Throughout October, thirty-three Mardulce titles will be on display on exclusive tables in the bookshop, particularly the thirteen titles the publishing house has released in Spain. There will also be the launch of the book: “El sentido olvidado. Ensayos sobre el tacto” by Pablo Maurette. The book belongs to the Philos collection, which is dedicated to philosophical essay.
