The Portuguese Urban Cleaning Association (ALU) returns to TECMA to present its ban management strategy
ALU will showcase its initiatives in innovation, technical cooperation and the professionalisation of the urban cleaning sector.
The Portuguese Urban Cleaning Association (ALU) will once again take part in the forthcoming edition of TECMA, the International Urban Planning and Environment Fair, which will be held from 9 to 11 June 2026, at IFEMA MADRID.
At this year’s edition, ALU will present its integrated approach to urban cleaning as a strategic pillar for sustainability, quality of life and the resilience of cities. The Portuguese association’s participation in TECMA 2026 comes at a time of expansion of the sector. The event has been established by IFEMA MADRID as one of the leading forums for urban planning and the environment in southern Europe.
At the fair, ALU will highlight the work carried out since its creation in 2019 in driving continuous improvements in services, promoting the professionalisation of teams, and encouraging the adoption of innovative solutions that address the current challenges of urban management. The association will also highlight the vital role played by cooperation between local councils, municipal companies and private organisations which make up its 77 members, in the transition towards clean, efficient and sustainable cities.
ALU’s participation in TECMA will include the presentation of its latest studies and technical guidelines, as well as the initiatives it leads to generate sector-specific knowledge and promote best practice. Notable among these are the National Urban Cleaning Conference (ENLU), which has become the sector’s leading forum for technical debate, and the Ciudad+ Awards, which recognise exemplary projects in the areas of innovation, citizenship, sustainability and staff wellbeing.
The association will also use TECMA 2026 to strengthen its broader approach to urban management, which now also encompasses the management of public spaces, green spaces, beaches, waterways and environmental inspection. This integrated framework reflects its commitment to more efficient urban models that are aligned with the principles of the circular economy. By attending TECMA 2026, the Urban Cleaning Association reaffirms its role as a key actor in the modernisation and professionalisation of urban services, promoting solutions that contribute to more liveable, sustainable communities that are better equipped to face the challenges of the future.
“The renewal of our partnership with TECMA represents a very significant strategic step for ALU. This partnership will strengthen our members’ presence at one of the sector’s leading European forums, promoting access to knowledge, innovation and opportunities for international cooperation, which are essential for the development of urban cleaning in Portugal,” said Ana Raimundo, President of ALU.
In addition to ALU, APEMETA and EVOX, both Portuguese companies, will also be participating in TECMA 2026.
TECMA has cemented its position as the sector's principal commercial gathering and 2026 will see it go from strength to strength, enhancing the ecosystem and generating synergies with the International Trade Fair for Recovery and Recycling (SRR), Global Mobility Call and SOCIOCARE, a new trade fair project focused on care and social well-being. With this, IFEMA MADRID strengthens the role of TECMA as a space where the solutions that will shape the future of cities are being designed today.
