Buses will be very much a central element of the debate on the future of mobility at Global Mobility Call 2026 (9–11 June 2026).

The bus and coach industry will be very much to the fore at Global Mobility Call (GMC) 2026, the major international event organised by IFEMA MADRID that will bring together the entire mobility ecosystem from 9 to 11 June 2026. This year's edition will position public transport as a strategic pillar for moving towards a more sustainable, connected and user-centred model.

In this context, the role of buses and coaches will be highlighted within the macro pathway “Public transport, MaaS and territorial cohesion”, a key forum for analysing the shift towards integrated, efficient and accessible transport systems capable of addressing today’s mobility challenges.

Three days dedicated to addressing the challenges facing public transport

The programme will kick off on Tuesday 9 June with a session focusing on mobility management and technological innovation. Experts and representatives from organisations such as CRTM, UITP, ATM and Metro de Madrid will discuss planning, institutional coordination and sustainability at a session organised by Indra.

The conference will also address the impact of artificial intelligence on the optimisation of transport systems in a session organised by EMT Madrid, as well as international success stories in sustainable mobility presented by Avanza. Grupo Ruiz will spearhead a debate on new, more flexible models of mobility better suited to the real needs of the public.

Wednesday 10 June will focus on the key pillars of the sector: sustainability, regulation and transformation. Over the course of the day, panels will examine the challenges involved in positioning Spain as a leader in sustainable mobility by 2030, in a session organised by Avanza; energy solutions for moving towards more efficient and autonomous systems, in a session organised by Grupo Ruiz; and the challenges of public procurement in transport, in a session organised by Arriva.

The event will also address initiatives such as the Abono Único (Single Pass), at a session organised by Alsa. This will be attended by Sara Hernandez, Secretary General for Sustainable Mobility at the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The role of talent in the sector’s transformation will be the focus of a session hosted by Moventis, and the progress made in the roll-out of autonomous public transport will be discussed by representatives from UPM, EMT Madrid, Alsa and CTAG.

On Thursday 11 June, the focus will shift to operations and service improvement, with an emphasis on how to respond to growing demand in urban areas without compromising quality. Operators like Vectalia and transport officials from various local authorities will share their experiences and best practices.

A comprehensive overview of public transport

Over the course of the three days of the event, crucial issues such as digitalisation, modal integration, energy transition, new demand patterns, user experience and regulatory frameworks will be tackled. All of this will help piece together a comprehensive picture of the role played by buses in the mobility ecosystem of the future.

With its participation in Global Mobility Call 2026, FIAA is reinforcing its position as the leading platform for public road transport and supporting a shared vision for the sector: to establish a model in which public transport, with the bus at its core, plays a key role in the development of a more efficient and citizen-focused intermodal system.
