With the support of the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) it will be held in the Recinto Ferial of IFEMA MADRID from 21 to 23 February 2023 and will coincide with the next International Conference on Renewable Energy (SPIREC), to be held for the first time in Spain.

From 21 to 23 February 2023, IFEMA MADRID will hold the twenty sixth edition of the International Energy and Environment Fair, GENERA 2023 in its Recinto Ferial. This edition will benefit from the renewed support of the  Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy, IDEA. The meeting of the event’s Organising Committee, held on 13 September, recalled the excellent results from the June 2022 edition. These results endorse the coming edition, which will coincide with the International Conference on Renewable Energy (SPIREC), a leading international event in the field of renewable energy which will be held for  the first time in Spain. Both events demonstrate the potential of Spain as the eighth country in the world in renewable energy.

GENERA successfully closed its 25th edition inaugurated by the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, after welcoming 25,512 professional visitors, demonstrating a strong international element, with 59 foreign companies – from 19 countries- among the total 257 exhibitors.

The third vice-president of the government and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, took the opportunity, in addition to presenting the Renewables 2022 Global Status Report by REN 21 (Agency for Renewable Energy for the 21st Century), to announce the International Conference on Renewable Energy, SPIREC, jointly organised with the international platform REN21 within the framework of GENERA 2023.

Both events strengthen the role of Spanish industry as an innovator, which has allowed Spain to be ranked the eighth country in the world in terms of renewable energy. In fact, our country is leader in photovoltaic solar energy and wind energy, and is in second place in Europe in total wind power capacity (28.2 GW), behind Germany. What is more, in 2021 we achieved a new record in the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, with 4.9 GW of annual  capacity, 44% more than in 2020. Spain represented 3% of the global increase in photovoltaic solar energy in 2021.

GENERA 2023 will focus on the energy transition and through this, on energy autonomy and security; the green recovery and social inclusion; climate financing -financial support for projects to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change and participation in International Financial Institutions, IFI-, the “green European taxonomy” which, as a classification system, will establish a list of sustainable economic activities that contribute to compliance with the environmental goals of the European Union and enable green investments to accelerate the green transition, the presence of clean energy technologies which are less widespread, but are of great impact such as small-scale hydropower; digitalisation and cybersecurity; energy efficiency and reduced consumption, and the circular bioeconomy and advanced biofuels, among other aspects.

Other topics to be tackled at GENERA 2023 through its program of Technical Workshops, are renewable energy and the rural world, as well as development opportunities for local communities and the contribution to decarbonisation; the quality, innovation and resources assigned in the development of R&D&I programmes in the renewable energy field; the contribution of renewable energy to the green and fair energy transition, with special emphasis on citizen participation (energy communities), and in the foreign markets of greatest interest to the sector, above all Ibero-America and South East Asia.

Finally, GENERA 2023 will have specially adapted methods of participation for small businesses and their associations, to ensure high levels of participation and create a first-rate, highly profitable area for business.
