Gas boilers remain an efficient and viable option for most Spanish households, especially at a time when the need to accelerate the energy transition and renew heating and domestic hot water production systems is urgent. Sonia Pomar, director of FEGECA, was emphatic at the recently held assembly of the Association of Manufacturers of Heat Generators and Emitters.

The Association of Manufacturers of Heat Generators and Emitters recently held its ordinary and extraordinary general assembly at the premises of UNE, the Spanish Association for Standardisation, in Madrid, where it brought together its members in person. During the meeting, Sonia Pomar, director of FEGECA, presented the Activities Report 2024, reviewed the main actions that have been carried out in the Association throughout the year and analysed the evolution of the sector.

Pomar pointed out that, during 2024, a moderate recovery has been observed compared to previous years. Although a full recovery has not yet been achieved, sales figures have shown signs of improvement. In this context, she stated that gas boilers are still an efficient and viable option for most Spanish households, especially at a time when the need to accelerate the energy transition and renew heating and domestic hot water production systems is urgent.

The director pointed out that the uncertainty caused by the lack of clear information on the future of gas boilers is one of the major challenges for the industry. FEGECA continues to focus its efforts on defending the interests of the sector, centring the Association as a key interlocutor with the Administration and other related entities. The association advocates an energy transition in which renewable gases form part of the decarbonisation process, considering hybrid solutions and renewable fuels such as biogas, biomethane and hydrogen as a feasible and rapid alternative.

Climate targets

Pomar stated that “today, we face a major challenge: renewing the boiler stock to meet the climate targets set by the European Union.” He added that “at FEGECA, together with our members, we continue to promote the adoption of all available technological solutions on the market, with the goal of achieving real decarbonisation of our buildings, based on energy efficiency and sustainability.”

Collaboration with associations, both at the national and European levels, “has been key in raising awareness of the strategic role our sector plays in the decarbonisation process.” The companies associated with FEGECA are firmly committed to the energy transition and are committed to increasingly efficient and innovative technologies. "Achieving rapid and effective decarbonisation, where carbon and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced to mitigate the impacts of climate change and promote a sustainable future, is one of FEGECA's main goals".

Election of the President

During the Assembly, the election of the President of FEGECA for 2025-2026 term also took place. The candidate, Raúl Serradilla, was elected by a majority vote at the assembly. He thanked the members for their trust and expressed his commitment to working diligently to maintain and strengthen the association’s activities, with the aim of keeping it a leading voice in the sector. Serradilla succeeds Nicolás Klingenberg, to whom FEGECA expressed its gratitude for his dedication, commitment, and contributions during his term.
