The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas has launched the Hydrogen Project Visualisation Platform, which provides a comprehensive overview of hydrogen projects, from production to end use, via transmission and distribution. The aim is to establish a hydrogen network that will help sectors that are difficult to decarbonise, such as buildings, to become carbon neutral by 2050.

On 9 September, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) launched the Hydrogen Project Visualisation Platform, which provides a comprehensive overview of hydrogen projects along the gas value chain, from production to end use, via transmission and distribution. The platform - including over 300 projects - was developed on the basis of information collected within the ‘Gas Quality and Hydrogen Handling’ group of promoters and supplemented by publicly available sources.

Most of the projects related to the heating sector have been provided by the European Heating Industry Association (EHI), which has actively participated with the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance. An interactive map makes it easier for stakeholders and policymakers to visualise where supply and demand centres – called hydrogen valleys – are emerging and how they can be connected to transport hydrogen from areas with high production potential to demand centres located in other Member States by means of an EU-wide logistics infrastructure.

FEGECA, the Spanish Association of Heating Equipment Manufacturers, is a full partner of the EHI and considers the alliance to be ‘very positive and an important contribution to our shared message endorsing the use of green gases for heating’.

This platform shows that hydrogen use in buildings is already a reality within Europe. It will also be a key factor in creating a hydrogen network, which will help sectors that are difficult to decarbonise, such as buildings, to become carbon neutral by 2050. ‘As a member of the group of promoters, the heating industry also contributes to the roadmap – which includes short, medium and long-term scenarios – to coordinate efforts across the entire gas value chain’, according to FEGECA.
