IFEMA and EL CORTE INGLÉS together to promote the international tourism in Madrid

The leading fair operator of Spain and the reference company of the national distribution together to promote synergies in the business and shopping tourism

IFEMA and EL CORTE INGLÉS, two of the main driving forces behind tourism in Spain, as well as abroad, have joined to launch the international tourism in Madrid. The collaboration agreement consists of different lines of action which create synergies in their strategies for the business and shopping tourism.

In this connection, both entities will implement different actions in their marketing campaigns, by means of different promotion channels, and will design specific projects to contribute to support, in the professional sectors and in the international destinations of special interest, the potential of the fair and congress sector as a quality shopping tourism facilitator, and position Madrid as a landmark destination.

This Alliance will be reinforced by the on site exchanges of both trademarks, in strategic areas of their installations, which will favor the flow of potential visitors. IFEMA, in its main fairs and international congresses, with a high number of foreign visitors, and EL CORTE INGLÉS, in its main centers around Spain and particularly, in the center of Castellana. In addition, we count on broad-coverage communication initiatives of both companies, at an international level.

For congresses, Spain is the third country with an important activity of congresses and events held, and Madrid, the second as the city with a high number of worldwide congresses held. A position where IFEMA has an essential role as the main contributor with around 500 events and celebrating in 2014 a total of eight international congresses, which will mobilize the assistance of more than 50000 professionals around the world, generating for Madrid a hotel occupancy of more than 150 thousand hotel beds.
For the shopping tourism, Spain has become the fourth country of choice around the world for this sector. Only in our country, the outside Community travelers spend 1100 million Euros. According to experts, only few sectors, as the shopping and business tourism, have enough capacity to launch growth and create employment. In addition, if they act together, they can influence the trademark and the positioning of a destination like Madrid.
