FORO SICUR, the conference programme of technical seminars, attracted 2,500 participants

Organised by IFEMA, the event took place from 20 to 23 February 2018 at Feria de Madrid

SICUR 2018 closed its doors with an excellent record of results, showing growth across all parameters reflecting the event’s success. On one hand, from 20 to 23 February, the event was host to a wide range of companies in the halls of Feria de Madrid, which this year amounted to 645 exhibitors - representing an increase of 12 por ciento - as well as a considerable array of innovations in integrated safety and each of the sectors represented at the Trade Show: Security-Defence, Fire Prevention-Emergencies, and Safety at Work

On the other hand, SICUR also exceeded all expectations with regard to professional participation, with 43,732 visitors, representing an increase of 3.4 por ciento. Added to this was the widespread scope of the exhibitors, both at the national and international level.

In this regard, it was noteworthy that SICUR received visitors from all of Spain’s autonomous regions. In fact, 55.23 por ciento of professionals were from outside Madrid - 4 por ciento more than last year - with a sizeable number of visitors from Catalonia, Andalusia and Valencia, in that order.

In the international arena, SICUR saw the attendance of professionals from 81 different countries, representing 8.5 por ciento of the total number of visitors. In this case, European professionals accounted for the majority of international attendees, especially those from Portugal, Italy, France and United Kingdom, in addition to visitors from the Ibero-American area.

In keeping with the atmosphere of professional dynamism and engagement that characterised the fair, FORO SICUR - the conference programme of technical seminars, round tables and presentations - amassed a total of 2,500 participants during its 20 sessions. Within this context, and with a focus on Cybersecurity, the new exhibition space and technical seminar venue SICUR CYBER brought together 400 professionals. The SICUR CYBER programme was organised in partnership with ISMS Forum, the Spanish Association for the Advancement of Information Security, and was sponsored by Fundación Mapfre, Sophos, Symantec and Forcepoint.

Also new this year were the DEMO PRL demonstrations in hall 4 (Safety at Work), aimed at promoting best practices in occupational risk prevention, offering two live mock-ups in different workplace scenarios, as well as specific instructions for using the various items of personal and collective protective equipment necessary. DEMO PRL was developed in partnership with the Association of Companies in Engineering, Assembly, Maintenance and Industrial Services, ADEMI.

Innovation was the key element shared by the products and services offered at SICUR’s various stands, with an exceptional display in the New Products Gallery, which, like every year, boasted a wide range of advances resulting from the research and development of the companies exhibiting at the fair. This year, the Gallery showcased 45 highly innovative proposals in terms of both design and technology, of which 16 corresponded to Security, 24 to Safety at Work, and 5 to Fire Prevention and Emergencies.

Impressive attendance figures were also recorded at the rest of SICUR’s activities, especially the demonstrations by the canine units from the Catalan Mossos d’Esquadra and Basque Ertzaintza regional police forces and the exhibition of vintage police vehicles, Retropol VII, organised by the Spanish Association of Security Managers, AEDS.

SICUR 2018 was inaugurated on the morning of 20 February by the Minister of the Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Government Delegate in Madrid, Concepción Dancausa Treviño, as well as representatives from the Directorate General for Civil Protection and Emergencies at the Ministry of the Interior, the Directorate General for Safety, Civil Protection and Training of the Community of Madrid, and the State security forces.
