Montserrat Iglesias (Escola FUAB Formació): Participating in SICUR strengthens the relationship between the university and the professional sector

Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Foundation Training School (Escola FUAB Formació) is celebrating 25 years of training professionals in public, private and workplace security, cybersecurity, risk management and integrated safety and security. Montserrat Iglesias Lucía, Director of Prevention and Integral Safety and Security, explains the school's different services and how participating in SICUR is “an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the university and the professional sector, to publicise our training offer and to offer this talent to the sector.”
What does FUAB bring to the global prevention and security industry?
Our school, founded in 1998, has been training professionals in public, private and workplace security, cybersecurity, risk management and integrated safety and security for 25 years. With a multidisciplinary approach and a strong culture of prevention, we train managers, technicians and decision-makers capable of integrating risk prevention in any organisation or community and in any area of safety.
We therefore bring highly skilled and specialised talent to the professional sector and offer an academic career to current and future professionals. For example, students who have completed the higher cycle of professional risks or coordination of emergencies and civil protection obtain the validation of one year, so that in three years they would be graduates in prevention and integral safety and security.
What services does the school offer?
Our school manages three services: training, consulting and talent management. Under Training we offer the possibility to take an official four-year university degree where students learn how to prevent risks and the necessary skills to become a professional with skills in integral safety and security. The Degree in Prevention and Integral Safety and Security, which can be pursued in person and online, is an excellent option for anyone looking to work in both public security and private security, as a detective or security director; or in the field of occupational risk prevention, to become a senior health and safety officer with the three specialisations because, in addition to learning their branches of specialisation, they will acquire a true 360° vision of security, and the tools to be more efficient in the management of threats.
This undergraduate training is complemented by continuous education, which consists of specialised courses, diplomas and master's degrees that respond to the specific needs of the sector, such as, for example, the course to qualify as a security manager or specialised courses in leadership in security organisations. There is a wide range of training on offer so that professionals in the sector can choose according to their interests. Finally, we offer companies and organisations the opportunity to create training courses tailored to their demands, which is what we call in-company training, specific training for every business or organisational need.
And in consulting and talent management?
In terms of consulting, here at the School of Prevention and Integral Safety and Security we offer the opportunity to oversee selection processes for the Security Forces, as well as weapons checks for local police forces. This is a tailored service that responds to the needs of each police force.
As for talent management, we have a specific unit to manage internships and job offers. This is a free service for all companies and administrations.
How important is the Escola FUAB Formació's participation in SICUR 2026 and what innovations will you be presenting at the event?
Our involvement in SICUR is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the university and the professional sector, to publicise our training offer and to offer this talent to the sector. Being able to network with the professional sector is a way of highlighting how talent and training, as well as safety and prevention, are an asset for all our organisations. So I encourage all those attending the fair to visit our stand (4F06) to find out more about our training offering and the rest of our services.
