MADHORROR announces the first films in its horror film festival
The full programme for the MADHORROR International Film Festival will be announced shortly.
MADHORROR, the great international festival for horror, dark fantasy and Halloween culture fans, has announced the first films that will form part of its film programme, one of the highlights of the event, which will take place from 30 October to 2 November 2026 at IFEMA MADRID.
The first three movies confirmed are among the most outstanding offerings on the recent international festival circuit and have been selected following screenings at leading festivals such as Cannes, SXSW and the Berlinale. With titles from Japan, South Korea and Indonesia, MADHORROR is reinforcing its international outlook and its commitment to bringing some of the most significant offerings in contemporary fantasy and horror cinema to Madrid.
Among the first films announced is Never After Dark, directed by Dave Boyle and winner of the Audience Award at SXSW 2026. The film tells the tale of a wandering medium who accepts a job at an isolated hotel, unaware that she will confront a hostile supernatural presence that will test her abilities.
Colony, the new production by Yeon Sang-ho, director of the acclaimed Train to Busan, will also form part of the programme. Presented in the Official Selection of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the film places viewers in a Seoul skyscraper where a rapidly mutating virus sparks a fight for survival against a horde of infected people with an ever-evolving collective intelligence.
Completing this first preview is Ghost in the Cell, directed by Joko Anwar and presented in the Forum section of the 2026 Berlinale. Set in a maximum-security prison in Indonesia, the film combines supernatural horror and thriller elements to tell the story of how inmates and prison officers are forced to join forces against an invisible force that threatens to destroy them all.
The full programme for the MADHORROR International Film Festival, housed in the South Auditorium at IFEMA MADRID, will be announced shortly. Attendees will then be able to book seats for the film screenings included in certain ticket options, and additional access options for the screenings will go on sale.
Beyond the big screen, MADHORROR will transform IFEMA MADRID into an immersive experience spanning more than 25,000 square metres, with exhibitions, haunted attractions, interactive experiences, gaming, comics, cultural activities and an extensive programme for all fans of the genre.
