FERIARTE was 35 years old, more than three decades

transforming Madrid into the epicentre of antiques,

the decorative arts and paintings. Generally speaking,

antique dealers and gallery owners were satisfied with

their sales figures, which remained stable. This unique

event included some successful activities such as the

‘Favourite Piece’ initiative, an opportunity to enjoy

a collection of outstanding objects from exhibitors;

‘Wines with Art’, and a new Edition of the Forum, a

space for debating about the antiques market.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, José

Ignacio Wert, opened this event, which was noticeably

affected by the crisis, in which 90 exhibitors took part.

Once again, FERIARTE invited visitors to an exhibi-

tion of ‘Favourite Pieces’ selected by antique dealers

and gallery owners, which included everything from

paintings and sculptures to furniture, jewellery and

collectors’ pieces.

An Egyptian mummy dated from 700 to 300 BC was

the star attraction at this Edition, in which 90 antique

dealers and galleries took part. For the first time, with

the collaboration of Product Design Madrid – PDM–

the Fair had an area for design, an exciting event in-

novation for lovers of ArtDesign and for design in

general. The new D21 space contained a selection of

objects curated by Italian design gallery owners Ros-

sana Orlandi.

The dismal economic situation in Spain did not stop

FERIARTE from achieving economic success. A total

of 18,100 visitors attended the exhibition and 2,712

pieces were sold, a 15% increase over the previous

year. This event included the ‘Feriarte in Muse-

ums’ exhibition, which took visitors on a tour around

some of the objects acquired by museums and institu-

tions at earlier editions of the Trade Fair.

FERIARTE was a magnificent setting for the only

remaining portrait of King Felipe IV painted by Pe-

ter Paul Rubens in 1628, of which nothing had been

heard for 50 years and of great interest to the public

and professionals. A total of 95 antique dealers and art

galleries took part in this year’s event, which included

antique books for the first time.

This year, in November 2016, FERIARTE will be 40

years old. Over four decades, this event has developed

into a landmark for the Spanish antique scene. It has

evolved alongside the growth in the antique art sector,

and the development of the growth in public taste and

interest. FERIARTE has been a key driving force for

antique dealers and collectors and an essential tool for

disseminating, promoting and managing antiques or

country’s antique market.

Forty years making Madrid the heart of the market

for antique, decorative and fine arts. Hundreds of
