Considered the most important antique centre in
Spain and ranked fourth in the world, FERIARTE
XXVIII saw a minor fall in visitor numbers and pieces
sold, aspects linked to a cooling of the international
economy, and the fact that this Edition was held a few
weeks later than usual. A total of 189 antique dealers
and galleries took part with 17,000 high quality piec-
es, confirming the success of mixing past and present
at the same event in accordance with the decorative
trends of the moment.

FERIARTE XXIX was a great opportunity for
all art lovers to see the best offer of antique art
available at the time. It was remarkable a 14th
century Gothic panel. A traditional exhibition
from the National Museum of Decorative Arts
was among the parallel activities, as were the
FERIARTE Golf Tournament and a charity gala or-
ganised by the Madrid Antique Dealers Association.

The fantastic 30th anniversary of the Trade Fair was
attended by 33,000 people. With 189 exhibitors, this
Edition was outstanding for the quality of the pieces
on show and the prestigious election of antique deal-
ers and galleries that took part. The best-selling pieces
were paintings, followed by books and bibliography,
decorative arts and jewellery.

FERIARTE changed location and moved to the new,
modern halls 12 and 14 at Feria de Madrid. Among
the most innovative and popular aspects were the free
guided tours by qualified professors. Almost 34,000
visitors were able to enjoy around 18,000 objects of
great artistic value.

Another innovation, extremely popular with the pub-
lic, started at FERIARTE XXXII, with the Young Col-
lectors’ Gallery, a selection of pieces with price tags
below 3,000 euros. On this occasion there were sold
works by prestigious authors such as Rafols Casama-
da, Antoni Tàpies, Jaume Plensa, Antonio Saura, Juan
Muñoz, Eduardo Úrculo and the Equipo Crónica.

In spite of the general economic climate, the fair did
better than expected for most participants, with 4,000
pieces sold and 27,000 visitors, higher figures than the
preceding year. The Young Collectors’ Gallery was
included again to encourage young collectors and to
foster an interest in art among a wide audience. The
Fair’s corporate profiles on Facebook and Twitter
were created.

Once again, Madrid became the centre of the atten-
tion for antique, decorative arts and painting worlds at
FERIARTE XXXIV, an Edition opened by Princess
Letizia. This time there were 140 exhibitors and the
results were good, generating greater confidence in
the art world.
