Almost 500 companies showcased the latest developments in the pet products and services industry
A total of 15,732 professionals from 46 countries gathered together for the second joint IBERZOO+PROPET International Trade Fair for Petcare Professionals - the ninth for PROPET and the sixth for IBERZOO. From 15 to 17 March, the latest developments in the petcare industry were unveiled at the Feria de Madrid by 468 direct exhibitors, represented firms and brands. The event’s strong attendance figures confirm IBERZOO+PROPET’s standing as the Iberian Peninsula’s premier commercial and business event for the petcare sector. The trade fair was officially opened on 15 March by José Luis Sanz, the Director General of Agriculture and Livestock of the Community of Madrid, and Luis Miralles de Imperial from the Ministry of Economy’s Sub-directorate of the Secretary General for Science and Innovation.
Within the broad group of professionals attending IBERZOO+PROPET (including specialised trade, veterinarians, canine stylists and groomers, breeders and trainers), the majority (94%) were from Spain - among them a sizeable contingent from Madrid (43%) - followed by (in this order) Catalonia, Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha, Valencia and Castile and Leon. Foreign visitors included a significant number from Portugal.
At the same time, IBERZOO+PROPET 2018 made an impressive impact on social networks. In specific terms, on Facebook the trade fair reached 16,813 people, while on Twitter it amassed 2,096 followers.
IBERZOO+PROPET again showcased the industry’s most innovative aspects as well as companies’ achievements in R&D, through both the products and services presented at the stands and initiatives such as the Gallery of Innovations and New Developments and the Digital Guide.
The trade fair also offered a panoramic view of this sector, with comprehensive collections of pet fashion, toys and accessories, nutrition and snacks, pharmaceuticals and health products, hygiene and grooming, fishkeeping products, equipment for pet shops and veterinary clinics, furniture, harnesses and collars, as well as services and management.
Alongside the enthusiastic involvement of the business sector was the continued support of the sector’s two main entities, AMVAC, the Madrid Association of Pet Veterinarians, and AEDPAC, the Spanish Association of Pet Product Distributors (promoters of the event).
AMVAC held its 25th VetMadrid Conference to coincide with the trade fair, as it has done since its inception. The conference welcomed 3,086 professionals. The 25th VetMadrid Conference brought together veterinarians and experts in veterinary medicine and surgery for sense organs and dermatology, in line with the central theme of this year’s conference. In addition to this, during 15 to 17 March, IBERZOO+PROPET was also host to Conferences for Veterinary Centre Clinical Assistants, Business Training, Animal Protection Entities (in association with FAPAM), and Trainers (in association with ANPAC) and other specialist areas.
IBERZOO+PROPET 2018’s parallel programme of professional forums and seminars featured a packed schedule, including the Boutique Catwalk for pet fashion and accessories, the IBERZOO+PROPET Trade and Training Forum, the Artero Dog Grooming Masterclasses and the Hugo Pesquera Grooming Workshops, all of which were streamed free of charge around the world from the Catwalk Stage.
The innovations area was particularly impressive this year, featuring a collection of 53 new products and 18 innovations from 31 companies, with information about the products displayed on a series of electronic panels and available via the Digital Guide at www.iberzoopropet.ifema.es (weblink). The IBERZOO+PROPET Showcase, created by experts in interior design, provided another space for presenting the latest products at the trade fair.
Other new features at IBERZOO+PROPET 2018 were the Veterinary Forum and the AEDPAC Forum. The Veterinary Science Forum was host to scientific presentations in the field of veterinary medicine, coordinated by the Association of Pet Veterinarians, AMVAC, focusing on innovative products and services for improving pets’ health and well-being.
On 16 and 17 March, the 1st Industry and Trade Forum for the Pet Sector in Spain took place, convened by the Spanish Association of Pet Product Distributors, AEDPAC. This offered opportunities for meetings and discussions about industrial, business and commercial activity in Spain’s petcare sector.
In addition, on 15 March, the first day of IBERZOO+PROPET, a sector-specific afternoon session was held, during which AMVAC, AEDPAC, Veterindustria and Vet+I presented data attesting to the current success of the sector.
Following this was the presentation of the 2nd IBERZOO+PROPET Awards, in recognition of professional achievement in various fields. The award for animal protection went to Matilde Cubillo García and the business award went to Gaspar Cabrera López of ICA, while the award for institutional initiative promoting animal welfare and coexistence with pets was won by SEPRONA for its campaign ‘#YoSiPuedoContarlo’ and accepted by Police Captain Sergio Ramírez, and the veterinary award went to Dr. Jesus Uson, founder of the Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgery. In addition, AMVAC gave its Solidarity Award to Aucavi, the Foundation for Quality of Life with Autism, which was accepted by Agustín Ramos Pedro Viejo.
Following this year's success, the International Trade Fair for Petcare Professionals, IBERZOO+PROPET, is already hard at work on next year’s event, which will take place from 21 to 23 March 2019, at Feria de Madrid.
