Sustainability in the field: Smurfit Westrock presents packaging solutions for fruit growers during the 2nd Fruit Attraction São Paulo.

Smurfit Westrock, a global leader in sustainable packaging, will be present at Fruit Attraction 2025, one of the leading international events focused on the fruit and vegetable sector. The fair, which will be held from March 25th to 27th in São Paulo, will be the stage for the presentation of innovative solutions developed to meet the needs of fruit growers.

Committed to providing efficient and sustainable solutions for agribusiness, Smurfit Westrock develops packaging that improves logistics, reduces waste, and adds value to products at the point of sale. Its innovations combine intelligent design and high-strength materials, ensuring protection and optimization in the transportation of fruits, vegetables, and produce.

A recent example of this expertise was the creation of a tailor-made solution for a fruit producer and exporter facing significant losses due to overweight packaging. The new packaging, developed by Smurfit Westrock, improved fruit accommodation, resulting in weight standardization and reduced operating costs. The positive impacts were significant: savings of 54 annual freight trips in packaging delivery, avoiding the emission of more than 32 tons of CO₂, and a reduction of 224 annual freight trips in fruit transportation.

Recently, studies conducted by the Smurfit Westrock Innovation team in Brazil using the EyeScan tool also indicated that corrugated cardboard packaging stands out at the point of sale compared to other models. The test was applied with a solution developed for grapes. With the new packaging, the product's visibility on the shelf increased by 88%.

“Our focus is on creating packaging that combines efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. We exclusively produce packaging with our Hyperform kraft paper, indicated, for example, for products with a high-humidity supply chain, such as the fruit, vegetable, and produce sector, guaranteeing the best packaging performance and protecting products from the farm to the final consumer to reduce losses in the logistics chain. Furthermore, its high resistance allows us to design packaging with more perforations, ensuring more efficient cooling and preservation of the product,” explains Daniela Tavares, commercial, strategy, and marketing director of Smurfit Westrock Brazil.
