Expanding frontiers: ApexBrasil boosts exports of fruits and derivatives

In a context marked by the expansion of Brazilian fruit exports, the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exportations and Investments (ApexBrasil) intends to take Brazilian fruit farming to greater heights. Last year, international sales of Brazilian fruit surpassed the historical mark of US$ 1.3 million, which represented an increase of 22.2% compared to the previous year.

With the objective of continuing to consolidate and expand these results, one of the strategies adopted by ApexBrasil to boost exports of the fruit sector is participation in international events, such as the next edition of Fruit Attraction, which will take place in São Paulo between the 16th and 18th of April. It is one of the largest and most important fruit fairs in the world, being of great importance and strategic for the Brazilian fruit sector, offering valuable business opportunities with international buyers.

It is worth highlighting that we have traditionally participated in Fruit Attraction Madrid, which is celebrated in the October of each year, always with good business results, so our expectations for the São Paulo edition will be different in the future, we are betting on the total success of the event.

The expansion and diversification of the export market has strengthened the potential of the country to produce tasty and high-quality fruits, more than that, throughout the year. The European Union and the United Kingdom continue to be the main export destination, equivalent to 75% of total volume, with growth rate. In South America, another market with growth potential, there is a growing demand for products in Chile (lemon, aguacate, papaya), in addition to advances in market opening in Argentina, as well as in the United States, a market with a lot of potential, we have an advanced opening process for lemon and aguacate.

In recent times, Brazil has been exploring new markets, such as Arab countries and Asia, with special expectation for the opening of the grape market, lacking definitive approval from the Chinese government. In the United States, a market with huge potential, the challenge lies in technical barriers. The grape, now, has good export expectations, especially to California.

Brazil is the third fruit producer in the world, only behind China and India, with an average annual production of around 54 million tons. It is estimated that the country plants around 2.5 million hectares of fruit throughout its territory – a complete production chain with more than 30 species of fruit and 120 varieties – for approximately 160 thousand rural producers. Brazil's export potential is enormous, currently representing only 2.2% of its production, but there is still a margin of progress, which accounts for around 2.5% in the global turnover of the fresh fruit business, estimated at 60 thousand million dollars annually.
