Seipasa , a Spanish company specialized in the development and formulation of bio-pesticides, bio-stimulants and fertilizers for agriculture, presented the new facilities of the microbiology department located in the town of l'Alcúdia (Valencia). The units are located in a space adjacent to the production plant and, together with the department of botanical extracts, occupy a space of 150 square metres that allow Seipasa to extend its laboratory and to further the internal knowledge of its products.
The construction works lasted six months and the facilities were equipped with the most advanced technology. Dr. Inmaculada del Castillo, an expert in the use of micro-organisms in sustainable agriculture, has been taken on as the new area manager.
"The new microbiology department helps us generate very valuable internal knowledge about the bacteria we use to improve the quality and effectiveness of our solutions. It allows us to take another step forward in the exploration of the effectiveness of products, that is, regarding the knowledge about their behaviour and performance in all possible scenarios", said del Castillo.
New international scene
Seipasa’s director of R D i, Francisco Espinosa, underlined the importance of the new department of microbiology in the current context, after the recent approval of the new European Fertilizer Regulations and before they come into force. "We are facing a new regulatory framework that includes products of microbial origin and that, in a clear way, establishes a set of rules about the use of micro-organisms in the development of bio-stimulant products", said Espinosa.
For Seipasa’s director of R D i "we are talking about complex products where the key lies in the internal knowledge of each of the strains we work with. Developing a solid base and deepening our knowledge of products is fundamental to enabling the transfer of such knowledge to agriculture, that is, to real conditions in the field".
Dr. Inmaculada del Castillo has a degree in biology and a PhD in microbiology and genetics from the University of Seville. She joined Seipasa after working in the United Kingdom for seven years, first as a researcher at the University of Nottingham and then as a specialist in the biotechnology sector and the development of bio-fertilizers.
Seipasa is a Spanish company that is a pioneer in the formulation and development of treatments for natural protection, bio-stimulation and nutrition of crops.
