BIOSABOR is investing 2.5 million euros in innovation and research to develop new organic products

In Spain, we consume more than 64 million litres of packaged gazpacho a year, and its main consumption occurs between March and September. Biosabor SAT is an important company in this area, it is a Nijar-based company specialising in the organic cultivation of fruit and vegetables, as well as being one of the benchmarks in the marketing of organic gazpacho.

Biosabor SAT, which was founded in 2008, is a family business backed by a decades-old agricultural tradition. It is currently a leader in organic food at international level and has extensive experience in organic, innovative and sustainable horticulture, thanks to which it has recovered the authentic traditional flavour of vegetables. It is located in Níjar, next to the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park (declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO) where it has 300 hectares under greenhouse cultivation, which coexist in perfect harmony, with the more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year that this privileged geographic enclave has.
The business record of Biosabor SAT over its 11 years of life cannot fail to impress. “In 2008, we started our journey with a turnover of 5 million euros. Our progress has been extremely positive, with double-digit growth every year and in 2019 (last audited financial year) we had a turnover of 64 million. We export to 22 countries, mainly Germany, France, Switzerland, Britain and the Scandinavian countries, among others. In terms of job creation, the number of direct jobs created amounts to1,000 workers”, says Mª Dolores Morales, Financial/General Director and founding partner.
This modern and pioneering company is committed to sustainability, since agriculture in Almeria is the most sustainable on the planet due to its low environmental impact, in compliance with the UN global pact and the Ministry of Agriculture's Sustainability Code of Practice. The company's commitment is particularly striking because it leads research projects in nutrition and health based on scientific evidence, it has undertaken clinical trials (you can read them here) and published papers in scientific journals, something quite unusual and unique for an agricultural company.
"We are dealing with a very ambitious investment of 2.5 million euros, which will go mainly on a prepared foods plant where we will produce organic convenience products (ready-to-eat), gazpachos, juices, soups, sauces, etc., with highly advanced new technology. I would even dare to say that it is unique in Spain, with the aim of putting products on the market with excellent organoleptic qualities and nutritional properties. We firmly believe in CREATING SHARED VALUE and in BUSINESS RESPONSIBILITY as the fundamental and only way of doing business, therefore, 500,000 euros will go to research, which is of vital importance to offering products with the maximum food quality guarantees that, in addition, provide added value to the health of our consumers”, explains Mª Dolores Morales.
New advertising campaign
The Almerian company has just launched a television advertising campaign to publicise its latest innovation, Fresh Gazpacho, a must-have this season that is made with 93% fresh vegetables. The ad shows parents giving their son Bio Sabor gazpacho, showing that they always give the smallest and most demanding members of the house the best they have.
