Combining exuberant natural beauties, diverse ecosystems and a rich cultural heritage, Brazil presents tourist destinations that satisfy the most varied tastes and interests. In addition to the traditional tourist spots, such as Rio de Janeiro, Foz do Iguaçu, Salvador and Manaus, new destinations have gained strength, offering ecotourism experiences, adventure tourism and authentic cultural manifestations.
1. Rio de Janeiro: Beauty and Culture in Harmony
Rio de Janeiro remains one of Brazil's most sought-after destinations, especially for its iconic scenery, with the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer, both recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is also noted for its world-famous beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema, as well as its vibrant Carnival, which is a true celebration of Brazilian culture. More recently, Rio has invested in a diverse cultural agenda, with an emphasis on urban art and international events, reaffirming its importance as a cultural and tourist centre.
2. Foz do Iguaçu: The Magnitude of the Falls and Natural Wealth
Foz do Iguaçu, located in the state of Paraná, is a destination that captivates visitors with the grandeur of the Iguaçu Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. In addition to the impressive waterfalls, the city is the gateway to the Iguaçu National Park, offering a complete tour of the local biodiversity.
3. Salvador: Cultural Heritage and Living History
Salvador, in Bahia, is the capital of Afro-Brazilian culture and one of the most important tourist destinations in Brazil. The historic city centre, with the Pelourinho and the Bonfim Church, is a veritable open-air museum, representing the struggle, resistance and celebration of African traditions in Brazil. In addition, the city offers visitors immersive experiences in the local gastronomy, with typical dishes such as acarajé and moqueca, and in the popular festivals, such as the Salvador Carnival, which attracts tourists from all over the world in search of the contagious energy of music and dance.
4. Manaus: Encountering the essence of Amazonia
Manaus, located in the heart of the Amazon, is the gateway to one of the largest and most complex ecosystems on the planet. The city is famous for the Meeting of the Waters, where the Negro and Solimões rivers meet without mixing, creating an impressive natural phenomenon. Ecotourism and adventure tourism are also strong in Manaus, with visits to the Anavilhanas National Park offering authentic and sustainable infrastructure, as well as insight into riverside communities and the Amazon rainforest through guided expeditions. Local culture, with indigenous, African and European influences, is preserved and promoted in festivals and regional cuisine.
5. Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism: Pantanal, Bonito, Route of Emotions and Alter do Chão
The Pantanal, the largest floodplain in the world, is the ideal place for those seeking an intimate contact with the Brazilian fauna and flora, making photographic safaris and observing animals in their natural habitat.
Bonito, in Mato Grosso do Sul, offers a range of ecotourism activities, such as floating in crystal-clear rivers, visiting caves and waterfalls, as well as expeditions through the biodiversity of the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest.
The Route of Emotions, which connects the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, is a tourist itinerary that combines adventure and culture, passing through unique landscapes such as the Lençóis Maranhenses, the Parnaíba Delta and Jericoacoara.
In Alter do Chão, in Pará, the tourist has the opportunity to get to know the Amazon rainforest with a focus on sustainable tourism, enjoying the calm waters of the Tapajós River and freshwater beaches.
