ARCOmadrid 2012 continued to occupy its urban space after the fair itself had closed, sharing its artworks with the city.
ARCOmadrid 2012 continued to occupy its urban stage well after the fair was over, allowing the whole city to enjoy the works shown at the event. Installations in public spaces, pop and electro concerts, video screenings in squares throughout the city, theatre and DJ sessions were some of the special activities held in various locations all over Madrid.
Some of Madrid's most central squares, such as Puerta del Sol, Plaza de Callao and Plaza de Cibeles, became enormous open air venues for contemporary art, with showings of video art and presentations by artists such as Nico Munuera, Eugenio Ampudia, Ruth Gómez, Fran Mohino and Pablo Valbuena, as well as the Dutch video artists Guido van der Werve, Jan Dibbets, Jeroen Kooijmans, Lernert & Sander and Yael Bartana. The Cineteca hosted screenings of works by Nathaniel Mellors, Gabriel Lester and Santiago Sierra, while the Hotel Room Mate Óscar showed a selection of pieces by Fabien Rigobert, Sam Taylor-Wood and Lorena Zilleruelo, from the Han Nefkens collection, on its terrace.
Ensuring that every form of artistic expression was properly represented, the scenic arts also had their place in the AfterARCO line-up, with a selection of three performances from the Festival Escena Contemporánea (Contemporary Scene Festival) selected: Paz Rojo, Navaridas & Deutinger and Falke Pisano.
Music also took centre stage in this novel programme, with performances by Martin Creed Band, Ginferno, Guillarmino and Pional at Matadero, and Montaña Sagrada in Pachá, as well as the DJs Knalpot, Triángulo de Amor Bizarro, Juha DJ, Planetas DJ, Cápsula, Lüger, Machinefabriek DJ and Tomás Fernando Flores DJ in Joy Eslava.
