From 22nd to 24th of November, IFEMA was proud to host the XXXVIII National Congress of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI) together with the XV Congress of Internal M edicine Society of Madrid - Castilla La Mancha (SOMIMACA), a congress designed with a scientific program in accordance with the main branches and specialties of internal medicine. This event enabled internists from all over Spain, endocrinologists, family doctors, among others to share opinions, knowledge, experiences and new advances and concepts in thisspecialty.
The 46 Annual Meeting of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation congress will take place at IFEMA in 2020 from March 22nd to 25th. The renowned EBMT meeting is the flagship event of this association: a medical and scientific organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and life-threatening diseases and the improvement of patients’ life. The congress will bring together more than 5,000 scientists, doctors, nurses, data managers, patients, quality managers, statisticians, pharmacists, biologists and technicians from around the world.
The annual ESMO Congress just returned to Madrid, three years after its preceding edition in the Spanish capital. We had the opportunity to talk to Chantal Cornu, ESMO Head of Congresses, about the success of this edition and the evolution of one of the largest and most influential congresses in the world.
Another great achievement for IFEMA, which is about to close a record 2017 in terms of international congresses: the ERS International Congress will take place at IFEMA from September 28th to October 2nd 2019, a large meeting organized by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) that will bring together thousands of doctors and professionals dedicated to respiratory health.
The congress is an international meeting of experts from the health research and development sectors of respiratory diseases. Receiving thousands of these specialist is a source of pride for Madrid and IFEMA; the 2016 edition in London gathered 22,645 professionals, followed by 22,121 at the 2017 edition in Milan. It is practically the world's largest congress in the Respiratory field
It is one of the continent's XXL congresses, an essential moment in the healthcare world, which gathered 14,300 professionals. The EULAR congress brought together doctors, scientists, health professionals and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry around the world, from 14th to 17th of June. Quite an organisation challenge! We spoke with Antonio Guadagnoli of MCI Group, OPC who was in charge of organizing the congress and we review some of the highlights of the same.
Exhibition area. Large stands and striking designs are key to draw the congressman’s attention to the stands. So the stands featured elements that transmitted the identity of the exhibitor through music, rest areas with wifi and connections to charge smartphones, working areas, coffee and drinks, virtual reality animations to fully understand the various products and their healing impact, etc. An example: Roche's booth was inspired by nature, with pink trees and country sounds. Pharmaceutical company Otezla imitated the European cafés including the typical terraces, with stone-style flooring and vintage walls, where congressmen could enjoy a coffee while keeping informed about the products. Innovation is galore in a large congress like this one.
Congresses connect large communities of professionals who, for a few days, exhibit, connect, communicate their ideas and innovations to their industry. And as you may have noticed, communication has changed and always involves the vital wifi networks: presentations, registration, presentations, stands... and more generally, communication between attendees and their access to documents. This represents a new challenge for large venues, in the implementation, management and administration of the wifi service since demand for bandwidth increases every year and gets more complex. Our appetite for data never decreases. IFEMA has dedicated the highest attention to issue and innovated in its services. Carlos Lamers, director of IT services of IFEMA, tells us how the service has evolved in its facilities and how IFEMA has managed to offer improvements and innovation in this respect.
HARRY POTTER: THE EXHIBITION. From November 18th onwards, IFEMA will host for the first time this exhibition of the magical world of J.K. Rowling, which will doubtlessly be visited by thousands of fans.
From 23rd to 26th of November, IFEMA will host the fifth edition of Madrid Horse Week, the most important horse event in Spain. The Horse Lounge will offer a program of shows and exhibitions completed with didactic activities including western dressage, demonstrations of turning and dressage, and sessions on health and care of the horse, as well as a pony park with children's activities.
It is always a pride to see that a world or European congress comes to Spain. And it was the case when we saw FDI hold their world congress in Madrid. The largest dental and oral health congress in the world took place from September 29th to october 1st in IFEMA. We spoke with Diego Herrera, congress director of PCO Grupo Pacífico, about the keys and the evolution of this major congress.
An interview with IFEMA's security Director
It is one of the most important responsibilities of the event organizer: the safety of attendees. IFEMA takes this mission very seriously and is here to ensure that risks are kept under control. We spoke with Alfonso Illescas Riaño, director of security and self-protection at IFEMA, to better understand the keys to a 'low risk’ event.
