IFEMA experienced an especially high level of convention and congress activity between May and June, with four major congresses. The World ATM Congress, which took place from 4 to 6 March; the 19th SEH-LELHA Congress, from 26 to 28 March; the 10th National Symposium on Pressure Ulcers and Chronic Wounds (GNEAUPP) alongside the 24th Conference of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), both held from 14 to 16 May; and the 82nd Congress of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS), from 31 May to 3 June. This packed schedule underscores IFEMA's key role in Madrid's rise to occupy 2nd spot in the ICCA's congress city ranking.


The World ATM Congress gathered over 6,265 visitors from 128 countries and 190 companies from the aviation sector to share ideas, views and know-how on key topics and the challenges this industry is fancing. It generates a turnover of almost €7 billion and accounts for 0.7% of GDP. The various conferences staged looked at future issues including the action to be taken in the event of operational challenges such as natural disasters, new technologies, the Solar Impulse project, efficient regulation, business partnership and the future of Air Traffic Management (ATM). Prominent figures from the aviation industry present at this year's edition included Ana María Pastor Julián, the Spanish Minister of Transport and Public Works, Michael Huerta, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and David McMillan, of the Flight Safety Foundation.

The 19th National Congress of the Spanish Association for High Blood Pressure and the Spanish League Against Hypertension brought together 1,987 participants, 174 speakers and 21 attendees. In addition, there were 22 sessions, a satellite symposium, 3 workshops, an exercise prescription course and a nursing course, a nursing meeting,, a community pharmacist meeting and a vascular physiopathology researchers meeting. Around 1000 people atttended the plenary sessions.

The Tenth National Symposium on Pressure Ulcers and Chronic Wounds (GNEAUPP), which took place alongside the 24th Conference of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) under the banner "Innovation, experience and technology in wound management", brought together 3,510 participants and 480 exhibitors from a total of 84 countries Schedule included 13 roundtables, 8 conferences, 3 EWMA-GNEAUPP symposiums, 20 workshops, 5 education sessions, 22 oral communication sessions and 18 industry symposiums. These activities enabled professionals from around the world to share know-how and information on research, showcase the use of the latest wound management techniques and materials, strengthen scientific cooperation and exchange and allowed participants from various healthcare disciplines and primary care settings. The knowledge disseminated at the event will help to prevent wounds and serious complications and to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people around the globe.

Finally, the 82nd Congress of the EAS welcomed over 2,000 authorities on artherosclerosis from 76 countries to exchange experiences. There were also more than 1000 scientic papers presented while over 100 guest speakers talked about the risk factors prevention and treatment of, atherosclerosis. Key topics in the plenary sessions included a potential vaccine against atherosclerosis, reducing residual risk once a standard treatment has been established, the role of immunity in the development of vascular diseases, dyslipidemia in diabetes and new drugs to increase hypocholesterolemic potency (PCSK9 protein inhibitors). This edition also coincided with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the the European Atherosclerosis Society, and the Honorary Committee of the congress was chaired by Her Majesty
